Note the similarities in representation.
This relates to a thread last week on the leftover, or accretional pagan beliefs or rituals that are still present in the Catholic church.
The Goddess of Mercy is a universal idol/icon in pagan belief systems.

That post and the claims made are troubling and inspired this posting.
However, we do have ample evidence of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church ordering the things done to non-catholics....for which the pope has yet to officially apologize for. Nor has the office of inquisition been liquidated. Yes the name has changed, but the office remains.
I suspect there are some in the rcc today that would love to re-open the inquisition. No doubt, there are some on this board that would love to do so.

If Finnegan or anyone else is placing any hope in Mary for their salvation, then the concern of warm temps is warranted.
How strange. I can’t seem to find the word “Catholic” in the Bible. Can you point me to the Book, Chapter and Verse?
But in calling Mary a “co-redemptrix” and in claiming she, like Jesus, never sinned, it cannot but Misdirect focus from Christ.
Thanks for your suggestion to look at the Wedding at Cana sections of the Bible.
Mary is quoted as saying “do whatever HE tells you” at Cana. Instead of praying for Mary to intercede on their behalf with their INTERCESSOR Catholics would be better off simply following her advice.
You are welcome. I have greatly enjoyed oriental art over the years, and have noticed the parallel among cultures in their appreciation of the concept of the Divine expressed as the mother concept. Our Father did indeed create mothers and their roles, so it makes sense, at least to me, that there would be something inside of us that has a desire to acknowledge that aspect of God’s creation. To Him goes ALL glory!
It is true that we must be so careful in seeking to follow God’s Word as best as we can in our human understanding but I am not trying to look at this in any deep theological way, but simply to point out that our Father, our Creator, did make the production of human life on this planet they way he did with two sexes, one of which is appointed mainly to carry and raise children.
We all have our own relationships with our mothers, and many of us have been fortunate to have the kinds of mothers who are genuinely nurturing with the ability to be highly forgiving and encouraging. People in most cultures have seen that many mothers do in fact have this deep love of their children with the ability to overlook much that they would not tolerate from anyone else! It is easy for me to imagine that an artist would easily seek to portray this part of creation as our Father ordained it, with mothers playing a big role in raising little ones to love Him.
Just a few random thoughts which your art sparked in my fevered brain!
The Jews in the first century had the tanakh and then some “special” writings. It was these special writings that Jesus had a BIG problem with. If you attend ANY church that has “special” writings you might want to do a little scripture study and praying about your attendance there.
When someone asks “What would Jesus do?” You might remind them turning over tables and chasing people with a whip is not beyond the realm of possibilities! :-)

Anything but absolute lockstep agreement with Catholic doctrine will get you labeled as a number of things. Anywhere from *hater*, *bigot*, *anti-Catholic*, *heretic* to name a few.
All for not being willing to go beyond what is written in the Bible and accept the deification of Mary that has occurred in Catholicism.
Please post the chapter and verse references where the term *mother of God* is found in the Bible.
All cultures have women. All cultures have women and children. Most all of them have made pictures of women. Most of them have made pictures of women with their children.
In other words, congratulations! You've established that Catholics and Buddhists are both members of the human race!
BTW, there's considerable evidence that the syncretism ran in the other direction, that "Kuan Yin" was male until the Chinese encountered Catholicism.
So Christ didn't save us by taking on a human nature from and through Mary, and then dying on the cross -- something that would only be possible if he had taken on a human nature (since a divine nature cannot die)?
If Mary played no role in our salvation, then the cross played no role in our salvation either. No Mary means no human Jesus, means no dying on the cross, means no "saved by the blood of Christ" (because no human nature, therefore no blood).
Doesn't sound anything like any kind of Christianity I recognize.

Catholics that get duped into “mary” worship haven’t a clue about who they are really praying to.

I think it's strange that any Christian who knows any theology at all would object to "Mother of God". It's pointing directly to Jesus' divinity and attesting to it in undiluted form. It's rejecting all the heresies against it -- Arianism (Jesus is not really God), Adoptionism (Jesus became God after birth, because God liked him), Nestorianism (there's a Jesus who's God, and a Jesus who's man, and they're sort of co-located and always seen together), Docetism (Jesus is an appearance of God, not really flesh and blood), etc.
Do you hold to an orthodox Christology, or not? Is Jesus both truly man and truly God, 100% of both, from the first instant of his conception in Mary's womb -- but still a divine, not human, person, who existed as God-the-Son from all eternity?
