When a Church, local or national, signs a tax deal with the government they are aware of who is in the fine print.

I heartily agree with you. I am sickened by what is happening in our churches. Those subtle compromises of a decades ago have overtaken us. Sixty years ago there were those who saw it coming. Men like A.W. Tozer and Rolfe Barnard (a lesser known mid-century Baptist evangelist) sounded the alarm, but no one would listen. The conditions they decried in their day would seem near heaven today. Spurgeon warned Britain what was happening in his land. He said the churches were on the “down grade.” No one listened to him either. Fifty years after his death their churches were mostly shuttered or post-Christian.

About The Passion of the Christ, it was nothing but a Roman mass on screen. It was full of Mariolatry and Roman symbology that surely pleased the Vatican. I wish I hadn’t seen it and I won’t allow my children to see it. Since then, in part because of that very movie, I’ve become convicted over the issue of images.

I like Mike Hoggard. I’ve listened to him quite a bit. I have some disagreements with him, but he’s one brother in Christ I admire and appreciate. I love his uncompromising stand for, and upon, the Word of God.

Of course, he would be fully within his rights to do just that. I wish him good luck in his spiritual journey.

Yup. Say, has anyone information as to the reason so many ministries have headquarters in Cleveland, TN? Anything special about the town or area?

I think your post is an excellent example of why the holy catholic apostolic church, which is both visible (you can probably walk to a parish church) and historical, is arguably the best of three choices. Barring that you could go Orthodox. If not, you have those Independent Fundamental (Baptist usually goes here) assemblies that claim to be descended from apostolic churches or John the Baptist.

If all of these violate your personal right to choose why not start your own ? Forty thousand other denominations, faith communities, sects, etc. have taken many available names but I think One More Restorationist Movement Temple That Is Really True This Time is still available. You did not mention if offerings must be tax deductible as a requirement so forgo the LLC and the IRS 501(3)(c) filings.

I have no idea why they are in Cleveland. I know it’s a beautiful area. My wife’s uncle lives there. He’s retired now, but he’s an ordained Baptist minister. He isn’t from Cleveland, so I’m not sure what drew him there.

This is an aside, but your comment reminded me of something I have thought about before. Sometimes it seems as if God hides some of his most faithful servants in small out-of-the-way places. They are in small hidden churches on the outskirts of town, little mountain hamlets, etc. They spend their lives preaching the gospel and toiling in relative obscurity. It’s almost as if the Lord put them where they are to protect the purity of the message. Often what the masses perceive to be the truth isn’t the truth at all. And what impresses men, doesn’t impress the Lord. A few years ago I asked a pastor friend if he worried about his congregation growing too large. He said, “That’s not likely because most people won’t tolerate the truth.”

You might try the Church of God of the union assembly ( not to be confused with the Churches of God)

Should be one in that area.

agree fwdude....what Catholics don’t seem to realize is that, when Christ died for us on the cross, the veil was torn and we no longer needed a high priest. Jesus Christ became our high priest. He made it clear HE was the way to God, no saints, no earthly priest, no hail mary’s, etc.

“Shall make no law respecting a religion...” is a strict bar to Government taxing. Any formalities following are only incidental and not an agreement the Gov has any authority here. If anything, the purpose for complying with paperwork is so as to not cause conflict. Arguably, churches could ignore taxation paperwork per the 1st if they wanted too but they would be harassed.

The Dallas Theological Seminary might be a good place to find some references to local churches.

You will love it but just so you know, there are Calvary Chapels all over the world. They started in the “hippie” movement of the late 60’s in Southern California. I attend one in Orlando.

This is a solid, Bible teaching church that will blow you away by what you learn. The clarity of God’s Word is breathtaking when going through the Bible with a good teacher.

I believe the Sabbath is a day of rest which if observed is keeping the Sabbath holy, but is there any orders from God that the services should be held on Saturday?

The apostles started their preaching on the first day of the week.

So I believe there are two falsehoods, the first being that a Sabbath keeper must attend church on the Sabbath and the second is the Sunday Sabbath.

So, only under the law Judaizers are the only ones who have “the key of David?”

Since we are in New Testament times, I am inclined to believe that King David’s greater son, Jesus Christ, has has a little to do with that key.
