It does matter since this guy wasn’t in a Church until he became Catholic. Before that he just belonged to sects - man-made institutions following man-made false gospels.
You can say what you wish, but it DOESN’T matter if that ‘Church’ doesn’t lead to one actually knowing Christ, that can happen either in or outside of ‘Catholic’ or ‘Protestant’ church memberships.
