Here's the problem.

We lost this argument long ago and never realized it.

Marriage was originally a holy sacrament like communion or baptism.

Long ago we let the left start referring to “civil ceremonies” (ones that where a judge joins two people together) as marriages. When they were NOT. A civil ceremony has as much in common with the holy sacrament of marriage as a bath does to a baptism!

As soon as we let them get away with that, we had already lost the gay marriage debate.

The true argument against gay marriage is that it is impossible for a same sex couple to be joined together with God in a holy union that God doesn’t approve of.

The minute you make marriage a non religious affair, there is not argument against it which will stand up to judicial scrutiny

The problem with this argument is that the legal institution of marriage predates the holy sacrament of marriage, and has existed in places with no Christian (or Jewish, etc.) religious tradition/history.

In 1996, Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act, by huge margins in both houses of Congress. Even most liberal Democrats at that time voted to support marriage as being only between one man and one woman. Regardless of their support for other homosexual rights issues, they thought that marriage should be codified into law as a man and a woman.

What changed since the mid 1990s? Why is it that now every liberal is out and explicitly in favor of homosexual marriage, when less than 20 years ago, only the fringe of liberal radicalism favored homosexual marriage???

Homosexual marriage has become mainstream as much as support for abortion or global warming, in that, they are all issues that to be a good liberal, of course you support it.

What I don’t quite understand is how is it that homosexual marriage was NOT always a liberal cause, and somewhere along the way, it became a liberal cause.

Matrimony still is a Sacrament.
