I came by my understanding of geology and biology quite honestly and in some detail through my upbringing in a mining town and many years working there and at other mines. I saw certain things around me that raised questions -- a volcanic plug dominating the valley, a layer of limestone full of fossils (some quite odd looking marine creatures) at some 3500 ft elevation and the ore body itself. I was fortunate enough to start talking with some friendly mine geologists who pointed me toward some texts and Mining Review Articles, in particular
Geology and Ore Deposits of the Superior Mining District which got me going. Soon thereafter Plate tectonics was accepted as the accurate geological model. This interest continues until today. I've had these convictions most of my seventy years.
You might be cheered to know that creation study comes in (at least) both old and young earth flavors, and that the old earth flavor has no problem with the plate tectonics.
To raise that as a strawman against the knowledge of God is a supremely dishonest move.
