Bishkek, April 3, Interfax - Russia will continue raising the issue of the protection of Christians in the UN, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"No one was going to ignore this issue [of Christians' protection]. It was raised in the meeting of the [UN] Human Rights Council and a statement was adopted, which was signed by 65 countries. It was initiated by Russia, Lebanon and the Vatican with Armenia's support," he said responding to a question about the possible support by Russia of the initiative to protection Christians in the light of the situation in Kenya.

"This issue was raised in the UN. Specific mechanisms should be used when working on it, including the Human Rights Council and a whole number of other structures, specifically those preventing discrimination," Lavrov said.

The Russians are standing up for Christians while the left is bashing them here. Wow, who would of thought this a half century ago? On top of that the Russians are proclaiming this in the UN of all places.

Well, I’m glad SOMEBODY is raising the persecution of Christians at the UN.

(Hint: it isn’t the US...)

Q. Why not?

About time someone stood up for Christians because Christians are being killed over seas and targeted by the hate mongers and bigots here. Of course that includes the bigoted, hateful, and biased media.

That stupid Silvery Minnow has more protection in this country than a Christian does.

The US, Mexico, Canada and European nations aren’t signing on to protect Christians? Disgusting.

Does Lavrov’s love of Christians include Ukrainians?

I can guarantee you that neither the Russians nor anyone else will ever protest the mistreatment of America's Fundamentalist Protestants. The ancient churches hate their guts and don't consider them chrstians at all.

Time to get out, dear people.

Good point! I guess they're out of luck, too.

you say:’

yes. Putin has been trying to get the world leaders to unite on this since 2013 - ...crickets, especially from DC. (except to start the conflict in The Crimea and Ukraine to annex Russia to NATO & the EU...and cause a Wag-the-Dog conflict to takes eyes of what was being set up in the Middle East - O’s JV Team) - Not to mention how furious O is about Putins stand on gays.

Deeds matter more than words. In Crimea and eastern Ukraine, the Russians over the past year have been persecuting Catholics to the point of even murdering priests. His lapdog, Chechen leader Kadirov, is murderous Islamist whose forces have been terrorizing eastern Ukraine.

When Putin speaks of protecting Christians, he means the FSB controlled Russian Orthodox church. Putin likes to trot out this fatuous claim that he is standing up for Christians, and there those in the West, either ill-informed or dishonest, who happily repeat this nonsense.

The Russkies are only playing games to pander to the right-wing in Europe and the U.S. Part of their program is to pander both to the left and right so as to avoid being crushed by a unified western reaction. In practice your average Russkie is a barely functional drunk, and in Ukraine they are actively murdering Catholic priests and protestant pastors. You can google it and find plenty of news stories on this being covered by Christian organizations.

Are you Russian Orthodox Marshmallow? I notice you’re usually the one to post threads like this, but you rarely comment.

I ask because Catholics and Protestants are actively being targeted in Ukraine; churches taken over; Christian businesses reappropriated.

Does that bother you at all?
