Not sure why you're seeing Protestant drivel in the article? In my opinion, the central point in Romans 1 is in verse 17, "... The just shall live by faith". This is contrary to, "the just shall live by keeping the law" - the point being made by the article's author.
Paul's admonition/condemnation in Romans 1 was/is toward pagan culture in general and Christians who have been seduced by that culture. Paul's Roman epistle is just as relevant today to the church in (name your city).
Society is ALWAYS exactly as described in Romans 1either flagrantly (as the pagans) or in hypocrisy (the Jews who had the Law but didn't keep it)and always in need of the answer in Romans 3:
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith."
I do believe "society" functions under law but only as a remedial check on fallen man. There is no salvation to be found in "order", just order. Good so far as it goes, and always preferable to anomie. America offered order, but see how sinful man has failed to keep it? Only the answer found in Romans 3 can "fix" sinful man and his guaranteed cyclical corruption.
So salvation really IS personal, "self and self alone" in the same sense as Proverbs 9:12
"If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it."
BULLHOCKEY !
Self and self alone is ascribed to those who are the works of the flesh, the self righteous apart from the atonement of Christ’s blood, the works based salvationeers.
The works based salvationeers trust in SELF, self righteous acts to earn their own way to God, to salvation.
Depending on Christ and Christ alone is one of the greatest acts of selflessness, to humble your self before God.
Trusting in Jesus Christ’s work of salvation through his blood is self less.
Trusting in your works, keeping the law is full of self and full of arrogant pride.
Trusting in Christ is a self less act of humility.
Christ and his sacrifice, his blood, his grace brings glory to God.
Self righteousness, trusting in your own works, keeping the law brings arrogance, pride, and vain glory to man..
Guess what ? It was the Protestants who first came to this country to escape religious persecution of the church of England ( Catholic ).
The protestants came here on the Mayflower and brought the first bible to the New World, the Geneva Bible.
This was a Protestant country by far than Catholic back then... No, this drivel that you spew here about the Protestants is just that, drivel..
It was the Protestant movement of England that would eventually become the United States of America.
Those 13 colonies were majority Protestant.
