Close.
God gives grace so that we may learn to obey. None of us is capable of the kind of obedience that a perfected saint can render.
If that mattered, nobody could be saved.

Any time God gives instructions your receiving is in your obedience. For example in Numbers 21:8,9- And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and put it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. Notice once the instruction was given it was up to them to obey. This OT even was a type of Christ ...
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,(John3:14)

If you want to hear God, you have to make your best effort to follow his commandments. It’s difficult, but I am trying.
