Because it’s a ‘back door’ means of saying ‘we’re right and you’re wrong’. Which in itself is not necessarily wrong, but it’s the manner and attitude that can make a big difference. There are exceptions of course:

I remember my grandfather (a lukewarm Methodist) having a sign in his living room that said: “Diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a nice way that they actually look forward to the trip”.

While I don’t approve of judging the souls of others, or declaring what ‘Christian’ group is a cult, if I have to debate elsewhere, that’s not a problem. I’ve simply tried to stay respectful and to the point, as I assume the apostles did in Acts 15. Maybe apologetics are now taboo across the board here.

If one truly has the fruit of the Spirit, that one should be as thick skinned as is possible to have on the planet.
