Pope Francis' Favorable Rating Drops in U.S.
Gallup ^ | 07/23/2015 | Art Swift

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Pope Francis' favorability rating in the U.S. has returned to where it was when he was elected pope. It is now at 59%, down from 76% in early 2014. The pontiff's rating is similar to the 58% he received from Americans in April 2013, soon after he was elected pope.

Favorable Ratings of Pope Francis

After Pope Francis was elected the leader of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church in March 2013, he attempted to focus the church on a renewed sense of protecting the poor, on interfaith relations and on respecting gay and lesbian members of the church. He was lauded in the American news media, with accolades including Time magazine naming him the Person of the Year in 2013. The next time Gallup asked about Pope Francis, in February 2014, his favorability had swelled to 76%.

In the current poll, conducted July 8-12, Francis' favorable rating declined, while his unfavorable rating increased to 16% from 9% in 2014. One-quarter of Americans say they have never heard of him or have no opinion, up from 16% in 2014. Now removed from the plaudits of 2013 and the high ratings of 2014, it appears that fewer Americans know enough about the pope to be able to rate him.

Pope's Image Among Catholics and Conservatives Worsens

The drop in the pope's favorable rating is driven by a decline among Catholics and political conservatives, two groups that have been ardent supporters of the modern papacy. 71% of Catholics say they have a favorable image of Francis, down from 89% last year.

Favorable Ratings of Pope Francis, 2014 vs. 2015

Pope Francis' drop in favorability is even starker among Americans who identify as conservative -- 45% of whom view him favorably, down sharply from 72% last year.

How about a “He is dead to me” rating, so I can participate?

Probably because people have figured out that he's the kind of guy who would want cockroaches, leeches, and mosquitoes in heaven.

We can only hope the Heavenly C Rats still have smokes in them because that's the easiest way to shed the leeches.

He’s a horrendous pope, obviously more interested in “social justice” than the Gospel.

Unless I like the person, I always answer “Never Heard of Him/Her”, regardless of how popular the celebrity.

I figure this will make them more likely to increase PR, thus further alienating people like me.

Buried the lead in the headline.

Surprised he had a favorable rating to begin with.

Are they referring to the bought-and-paid-for NWO pope currently wearing the stupid king outfit?

This kind of stuff tends to happen when Popes concern themselves less with matters of faith and more with matters of politics and, shall we say, other interests.

See the Borgia family or Pope Gregory VI for more examples.

Short may he reign!

I’ve never witnessed such ignorance and arrogance in a Pope.

So, 71% of Catholics are socialist marxist democrats?

No, the figures don't state that.

Do you?

“No, the figures don’t state that.”

The figures state 71% of Catholics believe the pope is favorable.

The pope holds Marxist beliefs and focuses on Marxist ideals. What does that indicate to you?

It suggests another interpretation: that 71% of the respondents are ignorant of the full dimensions of Pope Francis’ agenda.

Good point. So, what you’re saying is there is a fair percentage of low information Catholics out there?

Like low information owners, or what we call here “useful idiots”. They know who Kim Karwhatshername is shopping for but couldn’t tell you who the Speaker of the House is. Got it.

All of my family are Catholics,

I brought back a rosary for my Grandmother blessed by Pope John Paul II many years ago when I visited the Vatican,

I”ve always had proper respect for the Pope, as much as any non catholic should have.

I’ve never said a bad word about Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict, but its my opinion this Pope may already have done great harm to those like myself willing to respect the office as one would any world leader, hes greatly diminished the role in just the short time hes been in office,

As you say, the Gospel takes a back seat to pushing the secular new world order agenda of those the book of Revelation refers to as earth dwellers.

So please inform us ignorant ones of this Pope’s true “agenda”. It certainly isn’t about the salvation of souls; so what is it?
