The title is misleading. The Monastic Life is Christian, but the Christian Life does not have to be Monastic.

Do the commandments to pray unceasingly (1 Thess. 5:17) or to sell all we have, give to the poor, and follow Christ (Matt. 19:21) only apply to monks? Aren’t all Christians called to strive after simplicity and poverty?

No, actually.

There's nothing wrong with money.

It's the LOVE of money that's the root of all evil, and it's trusting in it that is the problem.

God gives us money to minister to others. If everyone were poor, that would never happen.

Poverty is not more spiritual than wealth.

Someone has to make the money that the monks get to live off of.
