New measures seek to prevent ISIS drone attack on Vatican in Year of Mercy
Catholic Herald ^ | November 18, 2015

Drones are to be banned from the airspace over the centre of Rome, during the Year of Mercy as a precaution against ISIS attacks.

In the wake of the Paris attacks, Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said on Monday that drones will be banned from the airspace from December 8, as the Year of Mercy is due to attract millions of tourists to the Italian capital.

Addressing the Italian Parliament, Mr Alfano said that security would be tightened around any potential target, particularly around St Peter’s Square, he said: “Particular attention has been dedicated to the risk of an attack from the air, using drones.”

On Monday, Italy’s civil aviation authority, which had already announced a strengthening of security in the immediate aftermath of Friday’s attacks, said it had ordered airport directors to tighten measures further.

Declare a drone-free zone. That’ll stop them for sure...

I would hope that they have a way to intercept a drone that ignores the ban.

Plus, we’ll have a the comfort, when they blow up the dome of St. Peter’s, that the perpetrators won’t truly represent Islam. So we’ll have that.

Nothing will help destroy Isis and radical Islam faster than releasing a couple of billion Christians in them if they did that one.

That’s not showing much mercy towards those drones.

They should install radar and some type of radio jamming. Probably can’t do much against a really fast moving drone, though, unless you want to mount a phalanx gun.

What’s the worry? Catholic Charities is being paid by the US government (i.e., sold their soul) to “settle” moozlums in the USA. moozlums are fun-loving and peaceful.

Do not underestimate the Vatican Swiss Guard.

If you have ever visited the Vatican, you have seen the stoic guards that look like they missed the bus to the local Renaissance Festival. The truth is they are a high-end military force made up of top ex-Swiss soldiers. And don't let those spears fool you, they can shred you to pieces with them. If that doesn't work, they have one of the finest firearms collections on the planet to finish the job.

I have a feeling, but not actual knowledge, that the Swiss Guard probably have a high level of security around the Vatican. Security that is efficient but just not made obvious.

We saw them in action during the pope's visit to the US. Francis has posed a challenge in that he refuses to ride in bullet proof vehicles or separate himself from the crowds. The Swiss Guards are an elite force with finely honed techniques for guarding and protecting the pope.

Dec. 3, 2013 - Pope sacks the head of his Swiss Guard for being 'too strict'

Daniel Anrig will no longer serve as commandant of Pontiff's private army after Pope Francis is rumoured to prefer a 'less military' approach to security
