That’s precisely what I find obnoxious. The video presents a perfectly rational, science-based exposition concerning what appeared in the sky at the time of the events recounted in the gospel, and a bunch of prigs have to jump in with moralistic warnings against “pride” or “knowledge that puffs up,” or railing (unjustly) against the people who made the video as needing “scientific proof” as a SUBSTITUTE for faith.

None of these failings was the SLIGHTEST bit in evidence in the video. I.e., the posters were simply exploiting an opening for some moral preening, some posturing as people of superior and purer faith, scolding, and consigning “the proud” to a lake of fire.

Faith needs MOTIVES, and scientific data are perfectly appropriate motives, among many others. Jesus provided motives when he worked miracles and made arguments. This notion that faith is real and meritorious only when we blindly and irrationally affirm whatever seems to be said in the Scriptures is one mark of a degenerate, brainless religious tradition.

Why don’t you roll back your hyperbole first, because there is no reasoning with that, and if you claim to be talking about reason you might as well actually be sincere about it... DIG?

And yeah! I’m a fundie about the Scriptures, and it’s on account of the claims that fill those Scriptures that I am a fundie about them. I can’t see a church half-believing them like they were a mere book of parables from end to end.

Sorry if you don’t like that. Your position sounds more like the umbrage taken by one who has been caught interposing the ideas of men.

As one who had an acquaintance with the occult before (in a tempest) becoming a believer, I can’t understand a church that believes the bible less deeply than some people believe horoscopes and Ouija boards and Edgar Cayce... I just can’t.

Of course you have to pay attention to the manner of speaking. Nobody ever said to treat it like a wooden textbook. But again, weirdly enough, our occultists could teach Christians something about that... they will look for poetry where poetry is fit, for history where history is fit, etc. But they will never get “NOTHING” out of the alleged source material, in fact they will get every ounce of meaning they can extract, and not hand wave it away as trivia. Now if Satan’s followers can do this... why not God’s? It is to hang one’s head in shame and then return to the Lord and beg for a more attentive state of mind!

So, how did all those illiterate peasants get into your religion, again?

I bet you refuse to even listen to "scientific proof" for the events of Genesis 1-11.
