Stop Calling Ted Cruz a Dominionist
Christianity Today ^ | April 6, 2016 | Robert Gagnon and Edith Humphrey

Posted on 04/07/2016 8:19:59 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Senator Ted Cruz has often stated that Jesus Christ is central to his life. He talks about how his father had left his family but returned after receiving the gospel, how his mother turned to Christ, and how this changed his life:

I was raised in the church.… When I was eight years old… [I] gave [my life] to Jesus. … [To] know that… I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, nothing is more important to me. I am a new creature in Christ, and it [is] central to who I am today.

I couldn’t run for president without relying heavily on my faith…. From the day we launched the campaign, Heidi and I have prayed simply that his will would be done. Each day, we try not to seek his hand (asking for help winning the race), but rather to seek his face (praying that his love and glory would be seen every day in the campaign).

Cruz’s unashamed affirmation of Christ resonates deeply with many Christians. But it has also created concern among many Christians and non-Christians alike. In this article, we’d like to clarify what we believe are misrepresentations of Cruz’s faith and its relationship to his politics....

I was wrong...took a little more research. He sold out of the Trump company that owned the property before the Scores opened.

So whew, which was it.

Somehow I thought that if it was a live scandal, it would have come up in places less obscure than FR by now.

Good on Donald to have at least tried to salvage the Trump brand from the scandal.

As another poster mentioned, upthread, this was after Trump had sold the property.

Actually he (post 67) said was "What I have heard" but he gave no link to prove what he said.

“Here’s his interview saying he’s for universal health care.”

I don’t know why you bothered to post this. He never said Universal Health Care or ObamaCare. You do know that in the many years before ObamaCare, the taxpayers paid for health care for people without insurance.

And Trump said he would like to change the way NATO is funded, not get rid of it. By the way, his views were backed up by the senators who, just yesterday, were complaining to the Secretary General of Nato in DC.

Tithing. I was not raised in a church that practiced tithing but I have been told that tithing is an old testament tradition/law and we are not under the OT laws.

Look, I’m sorry I lost it. I was so angry over lies about Cruz even being a true Christian. God will sort it all out. I am not to judge a person’s heart. Sorry I called someone evil, that link you posted was evil, not you. Goodnight.

Frankly I wouldn’t expect either Ted or Donald to be telling me how to worship.

But Donald is less likely to try.

Just being a believer (which Ted probably is) doesn’t mean he is going to use associated spiritual capabilities to God’s glory.

And yet, Linda, here is his health care plan:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/healthcare-reform

When you ignore new information that sheds light on Trump’s position so you can use a murky interview and interpret it in a way that you can mischaracterize, that is LYING.

So, I trust you can stop lying about this too. Thank you.

That’s the second lie we’ve caught you in on just this thread. No wonder you support Ted. Birds of a feather. We’re gonna have to start calling you Lyin’ Linda soon.

It would help greatly, in determining whether or not Cruz is a Dominionist, if we were to understand Christian eschatology. Dominionism is Post-millennialism eschatology, usually in combination with Preterism.

In this form of eschatology, there is no “end time” ahead of us, no future antichrist, end time prophecy has already been fulfilled (in 70 AD). With the end time in the past, all that lies before those that believe this, is Christianity conquering the world, taking “dominion” over it.

In short, the bringing in of a one world Christian theocracy - which theologians call the “Millennium” (thousand year kingdom of Christ) As to the second coming of Christ, that occurs AFTER the Millennium.

Does Ted Cruz believe in this form of doctrine? Even more significant, does his preacher Dad believe it? Absolutely NOT. Both are Premillennial Baptists - which is NOT Dominionist, Postmillennialist nor Preterist.

To identify Ted Cruz with this belief, is slander of the first order. An absolute lie.

How one believes about Israel is a clear identifier as to whether one is a Postmill Preterist or not (a Dominionist). Premillennialists are extremely pro-Israel, Cruz is a fierce defender of Israel.

A custom of giving has been adopted by many churches that they call tithing.

But if something like the Old Testament tithe system was actually reproduced, churches or church families would be throwing big witnessing parties every year with the proceeds.

There isn’t any pope of Protestant belief and they are all over the map with favored interpretations.

What I’m curious about is what has produced the unequal yoking with Glenn Beck?

I wonder if any of these words apply to Cruz: robber, self-indulgent, appearing one way outwardly but actually quite different inwardly.

In this thread, one thing brought up about Cruz is his history of not tithing. It is a valid issue. One that Cruz admitted was a weakness and he needed to do better. He made no excuse about it, it was an area he said he needed to work on. He did not say, he didn't need forgiveness here, he didn't say he was above having to ask forgiveness, he admitted his shortcoming. The buck stopped with him. No deflection, just taking it like a imperfect man.

And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die. "However, because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme -2 Samuel 12

Now what did Cruz's lack of tithing do? It gave people who are enemies of the Lord great occasion to blaspheme... we see it right here on this thread. We see it daily on threads where people post stuff like "holy roller" and "hypocrite".

Well I read one post. That’s enough. Is it only Trump supporters who claim these wild ideas about Cruz? They obviously have never heard him speak or done research on him.

I agree.

There was an article posted here a few days ago that implied Trump started out this run for POTUS as an experiment and that he was surprised at how he has been received never thinking it would go this far. I get the impression looking at how ill prepared he has been on specifics and facts a president should know about that he might actually be regretting letting his huge ego take him this far. I can’t see him in a position as a “public servant” seeing as he has always been the one served.

No candidate is perfect, but of the four running, I think Cruz would be more in line with genuine Conservative principles. The OP on this thread explains well his experience with and defense of Constitutional laws.

Well if anything he bowed to the “Christian world.”

He could have been sharper and said that he gives freewill and the amount is between himself and Jesus.

And that would have stopped it, or should have. He is in the worst of both worlds.

as best I can figure out about Dominionism, there is a straight-line relationship between politicians (”anointed kings”) and the clergy, each actively furthering the other.

Back in 2015, Cruz was criticized for asking preachers to read a sermon Cruz authored, which was against some law:
https://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/ted-cruz-instructs-thousands-of-pastors-to-violate-federal-law-by-reading-sunday-sermon-he-wrote/

I was reminded of this 2015 incident when I saw that Cruz’s first two days in NY were spent with ‘men of the cloth’ rather than ‘general public’ appearances.

Now these may be purely social visits, although it seems a little odd, as far behind as Cruz is in the polls, that he would blow off public campaigning. But if it comes out that he is actively campaigning pastors to influence their clergies, then I’d say there’s a strong possibility he is a Dominionist.
