Pope Francis pushed open the great bronze doors of St. Peter’s Basilica on Tuesday to launch his Holy Year of Mercy, declaring that mercy trumps moralizing in his Catholic Church.
Francis stood in prayer on the threshold of the basilica’s Holy Door then walked through it, the first of an estimated 10 million faithful who will pass through over the course of the next year in a rite of pilgrimage dating back centuries.

A thin and frail Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI walked through the doorway right after Francis, gingerly negotiating the two steps with the help of a cane and his longtime assistant. It was a rare outing for the 88-year-old Benedict, whose historic resignation led to Francis’ election and a papacy dedicated to showing the merciful side of the church.

There are many ways to pray including talking to God,just quietly sitting or kneeling in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, singing, Mass, the Our Father, prayers for thanks for food and everything that God has given us, novenas, actions (works) for neighbors or the community.
According to the Bible, it depends on who one is praying to, in whose name and according to whose will the prayer is offered.
It's possible just to pray to oneself, unless the Lord Jesus Christ is on the throne of and reigning in one's personal life on earth, and if it is the Holy Spirit giving utterance during the prayers. Otherwise, one may be kidding oneself.

Whose...Catholic church is it?

I noticed that it was you who began this thread by ringing the doorbell and then poking the hornets’ nest at your non-Catholic FReeper neighbor’s front door. Then you pretty much ran far away while we were being stung.
Is that normal and usual Roman Catholic behavior and may we expect more of the same on FR’s Religion Forum?

The soul never fades. Your insults and ignorance is proof that your religion must be in error or you are disobeying it. Go study Catholicism before you speak about it again please.

Of a truth, you have finally spoken well, amihow.
I have not issued insults to you, although you may have been offended by what I've posted about Roman Catholicism that you may have not understood. I've posted the truth to you and not in an uncaring manner. Hope one day you come to see that.
Meanwhile, it is you who have insulted my Lord and Master Jesus Christ by attributing what I've posted that is in tune with His Word to "ignorance" and my "religion must be in error."

And the Catholic Church COULD NEVER HAD BEEN THE ORIGINAL "CHURCH" ... if they ever rejected God's word.

I am offended by your ignorance and arrogance. I have investigated all religions and seen the errors (and truths) of all except Catholicism as officially promulgated and the power of the Sacraments. I hope you will investigate further.

That is an ignorant and arrogant statement to make against me when I've caused you no harm at all. Your being offended is your problem to solve.

Sounds like a safe space for catholics is needed!!

Not all of your statements (sentences) can be diagrammed in an understandable way. This one is nonsensical and could be considered offensive to students and other users of the English language.

Investigate what?
All religions? Roman Catholicism and the power of its sacraments?
No, my mind, my everything, is settled on Lord Jesus Christ and I stand on that Rock that is Christ. I'm dedicated to following Him alone and not anyone or anything other, and to abiding in Christ alone, now and forever.
Why would you want me to investigate a man-made religion or anything less than worshiping Almighty God Himself, our Father in Heaven, His beloved first-born Son, the Way, the Truth, the Life: Jesus of Nazareth? Any other faith leads to Perdition.

And some people ignore the Word when contrasted with their churches practices. They DO. I don't understand how they justify it.
When I do/say something bad I WRITHE in guilt. I get some peace with acknowledging it and ATTEMPTING to be a better person for as long as I can.
It's the WORD OF GOD. What on earth can make a person IGNORE it? Our "church practices" or faith, that is, JESUS, tell us to love God and love one another.
That's IMPOSSIBLE to ignore.

The early Church fathers, which Catholic popes can be traced back to, made the decision about what was true and should be “the Bible”.

It is the same class of servant, all of which are not ready, with differing degrees of iniquity/unworthiness, and thus differing degree of punishment. As said, the only place mentioned in this parable is with the lost. You are using the difference in the degree of punishment in order to read a temporary place of punishment that would make them fit for Heaven, but which is simply not in the text. I notice the tender "Little flock." I also see three levels of judgment, with the first seeming fatal and assigned to the unbelievers. The next is beaten with many stripes for playing instead of watching and working. The last is beaten with few stripes because his lack of works was due to ignorance. Neither of the latter two classes of servant behavior result in assignment to portion of the unbelievers. The Messiah sums it up with saying more is expected from those servants to whom much is given.

Holy Years are generally celebrated every 25-50 years, and over the centuries they have been used to encourage the faithful to make pilgrimages to Rome to obtain an "indulgence" — the ancient church tradition related to the forgiveness of sins that roughly amounts to a "get out of Purgatory free" card.
