“Does anyone want to think for a minute if South Korea really wants reunification?”

I’ve asked the same question. I wonder how deeply the South Koreans want reunification - that is, if queried in detail about it.

North Korea is a basketcase of a country - economically, socially, etc. The people there (more so in the rural area) are so mind-numbed by the regime that the actual $ amount spent in trying to incorporate the North into the South would be beyond astronomical.

I’m not even talking about the $ amount spent upgrading the former North’s electrical, electronic and transportation infrastructure so that it’s on a remotely even par with the South. That alone would be huge.

In addition, how do you take millions of people who have been mentally, socially and nutrtionally deprived and try to bring them up to speed with the South?

It might take a century, and probably longer, just to begin to repair the genetic damage to the Norks. They will always be at a disadvantage to SK’ers until they’re assimilated. You won’t see much if any intermarriage between the two. It would be like a High IQ’d 6-foot tall supermodel intermingling with a mentally retarded, 4 1/2 foot tall emaciated child.
