Al Smith Dinner: Cardinal Dolan fails to speak against abortion
American Thinker ^ | October 21, 2016 | J. Marsolo

While the tradition of the Alfred E. Smith dinner to invite the Republican and Democrat nominee to raise money for charity is admirable, it was disturbing to see Timothy Cardinal Dolan laughing and joking with Hillary Clinton less than twenty-four hours after Hillary announced she supports abortion up to the moment of birth.  Worse, when he spoke at the end, he made a vague oblique reference to the life of the unborn when he said some of the money raised would help poor women give birth.

I understand that the dinner is to raise money and everyone tries to be civil, but both Trump and Hillary took shots at each other as if it were a campaign rally.  Certainly, Cardinal Dolan, archbishop of the Diocese of New York, traditionally viewed as the spokesman for the Catholic Church in the United States, could and should have spoken in plain language that it is wrong to kill the unborn.  He should have said killing an unborn child minutes before the child is born is infanticide, immoral, and an intrinsic evil according the Catholic Church.

As a practicing Catholic, having attended Catholic grade and high school, I am offended that Cardinal Dolan put the politics of the dinner ahead of speaking on behalf of the unborn.  This was the time and place to speak for the unborn instead of joking around with Hillary, supporter of late-term abortions.  Without attacking Hillary, he should have said raising money for poor children is obviously worthwhile, but the first order of charity is to allow the child to be born.

Jesus ate with sinners, trying to bring them into the fold,he used many sinners as his vessels to achieve his goals.
I understand some feeling angry,we have an election coming up to elect a representative in our secular government, both of them as well as all of us are sinners, look at their policies, especially their positions on the sanctity of Life,I think their Stated positions on that issue have been clearly articulated, make your choice to move us all in the right direction

It’s not really clear to me that the Catholic hierarchy (for the most part) believe that abortion is murder.

It is pretty clear to me that some of them (Wuerl and Cupich come immediately to mind) believe that it’s not so bad.

Like fish...Donald reeled them in, then hit them over the heads with the ‘truth’ hammer. As a Catholic, I would like the leadership to proudly voice our PRO LIFE position and TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE position...and STOP inviting those who OPPOSE those decisions, they have no business being there.

Trump was brutal in his comments against Hillary. There were loud “boos” and gasps. These comments are traditionally considered “roasting” where off putting, even slanderous comments are normally raucously approved. Trump japed an icon and the worshipers were not amused.

There was booing at some of Trump's remarks, not surprising that the crowd was mostly the NY elite.

Dolan spoke out initially against the provisions of Obamacare coercing people to violate their consciences in 2012, then fell silent in the lead-up to the election.

Money is not what makes one an elitist.

It was Dolan’s predecessor, Cardinal Egan (I had thought Cooke), who publicly did not invite Bill Clinton to the Al Smith dinner all those years ago because of his abortion position. Not sure that Dolan did or did not invite Bill, but it would have been awkward for Bill after the public censure back then. Why they invited Hillary!, whose views are identical, is another question. The Cardinal was wrong not to address abortion head-on.

That’s what it seemed like to me, a group of Catholic elitists who look down on Catholics that are against abortion & other traditionally Catholic teachings.

I never thought the Church had supported the Nazis rise to power, but I could just picture them holding a dinner like this for the Nazi elites, when Hitler first came to power.

In fact the whole New World Order reminds me of the Nazi rise to power. They are using many of the same tactics to silence us.

The Catholic Church should be condemning what was said in the exosed Wikileak emails, not hosting a dinner consisting largely of elitist Catholic Democrats and giving them the Church’s blessing to support Hillary and her New World Order ideas including abortion and silencing the opposition.

Jesus ate with sinners who were seeking forgiveness, not eating with them to ignore the sin.

Cardinal Dolan is an @sshole.

I don't feel any hesitation about saying this, because the truth is that he's not even a Catholic.

The whole charade of the Catholic Church in the U.S. makes sense when you realize that it functions no differently than those "state churches" you find in many communist countries.

Look at that dope waddling around in his red and black finery. That wasn't a Catholic fundraiser last night. It was a Halloween party.

It was John Cardinal O'Connor who didn't invite Clinton to the 1996 Al Smith Dinner.

Clinton was invited in 1992, and he did attend.

The Wikileaks items Donald Trump referenced in his remarks last night weren't even the most telling items in that e-mail dump.

Anti-Catholic hostility is one thing -- and it's to be expected in a country run by the diabolical minions of Satan. What was more remarkable was the explicit admission in several of those e-mails that the Democratic leadership is looking to foment a "revolution" in the Catholic Church to diminish its religious influence in the world.

It's important to remember that people like Cardinal Dolan are active, cooperative participants in that revolution.

Trump laid the bitch open. I almost felt sorry for her, almost. If you can find the video of DJT watch it.

When the bitch got off camera some poor soul felt the heat of her temper.

*** It’s not really clear to me that the Catholic hierarchy (for the most part) believe that abortion is murder. ***

The moment I was most disgusted last night was the absolute discomfort shown by attendees when Trump said we must (paraphrasing here) embrace a culture of life for the unborn.

I wanted to smack his eminence and a lot of the guests upside the head.

The New York archbishop is a member of the ruling class. He will not alienate his fellow oligarchs by standing for anything, much.

"Last night, I called Hillary a ‘nasty woman.’ This stuff is all relative. After listening to Hillary rattle on and on, I don’t think so badly of Rosie O’Donnell anymore. In fact, I’m actually starting like Rosie... a lot,"

THAT'S OUR DONALD! LOL!
