Prelate: US Bears ‘Moral Responsibility’ Toward Iraq
Catholic Culture ^ | 10/26/16

The Chaldean Catholic archbishop of Erbil said that the United States government bears a moral responsibility towards Christians and other minorities in Iraq.

Over 100,000 Christians fled to Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, as the Islamic State advanced on Mosul in 2014.

Calling for American aid to the Mosul region as it is liberated from the Islamic State, Archbishop Bashar Warda said that the US government should “play a role in protecting the minorities, because we’ve seen that, due to this American intervention in 2003, they have a moral responsibility, really, to finish the whole job in a decent and a dignified way.”

“Minorities have suffered a lot because of all this intervention,” he said in an interview with Catholic News Service. “I’m not blaming (the US) directly, but ... they are responsible, morally responsible for what happened.”

Once Iraq recaptures Mosul, people will still need help, says archbishop (CNS)

This is absolutely a religious WAR. It is purely that. America is 83% Christian. We better dig in and get real or we are going to get real dead.

If the US bears moral responsibility for what the Iraqis did with the country after we gave it to them, then NeverTrumpers bear moral responsibility for everything Hillary will do if they succeed in giving her the Presidency.

Agreed!

I do think it is disgusting that obama pulling out the 10k troops resulted in so much slaughter.

I HATE the clinton voting bushes but maybe 2 or 300 THOUSAND people died because of OBAMA. More than the actual war.

GHWB told GWB not to go there. Bush Sr. said George has no idea the hornet’s nest he’ll never be able to get out of.

While George Sr. has his faults, he certainly knows and understands foreign policy and has no illusions the world in which we live.

Father knows best.

This whole anti Christian catastrophe was triggered by the 2003 invasion. We own this. I warned here at FR at the time. Nobody cared. Still can’t believe I wasn’t banned.

Yes absolutely. Bush didn't give a damn about the displacement and persecution of 1,000,000 Iraqi Christians.

Christians over there have KNOWN that they are unwelcome. MOST have fled to Christian countries as they KNEW when it was time to "get outta Dodge."
Staying there? Why?
Understandable if there are elderly but when THEY pass on...time to hit the road, Jack.

Not a religious war, but a Spiritual War between the God of All creation and satan. As in all things, looking at things from a spiritual perspective brings a clarity to the issues. If God is for it, satan is against it. Easy to figure out which side to be on and where/how to act.

Inexplicable that a tremendous amount of resources were transferred from Afghanistan to start another war (or finish it depending on one’s outlook). As a result:nation building here we come and over 4300 Americans died and counting. (I had no problem at the time and did serve in Iraq FYI). America lost its leverage of 9/11 after the invasion. Removing Hussein started the dominoes rolling to what we have today in the broader context of the Mideast: Hell on earth; Dante could not write it any better. Obama and Clinton poured gasoline on it. At least he and other dictators kept a loose peace and marginally protected ethnic groups even though they were mass murderers. Yet they had nothing on today's ISIS who make Nazi's look like the Peace Corp. My heart aches for those suffering especially ethnically cleansed and defenseless. At this point and time and foreseeable future, America will be the weak horse.

It seems even the most ardent supported of GW at the time are having regrets now. I admit supported the war at the time and still beat my chest over my idiocy.
