The cardinal said there was a tradition of issuing a formal correction if a Pope is in error
Cardinal Raymond Burke has said it may be necessary to make a “formal act of correction” if Pope Francis doesn’t answer a letter from four cardinals asking him to clarify aspects of Amoris Laetitia.
In an interview with Edward Pentin of National Catholic Register, Cardinal Burke said that if the Pope were to teach error or heresy, “It is the duty in such cases, and historically it has happened, of cardinals and bishops to make clear that the Pope is teaching error and to ask him to correct it.”
Cardinal Burke is one of four cardinals who have written to the Pope asking for a clarification of Amoris Laetitia. They say that the document could be read as contradicting Church teaching on the moral law and on the question of Communion for the remarried. The Pope has declined to reply to the letter.
Asked what would happen if the Pope remained silent, Cardinal Burke replied: “Then we would have to address that situation. There is, in the tradition of the Church, the practice of correction of the Roman Pontiff. It is something that is clearly quite rare. But if there is no response to these questions, then I would say that it would be a question of taking a formal act of correction of a serious error.”

I am pretty sure politics entered it from both sides on whose lives were destroyed because of what a person did or did not do or who a person did or did not support.
If you speak out against the Pope and you are sent to a remote gig as punishment..is that politics. My answer is YES. Heck, you even see people on other threads wondering where these current Cardinals will end up in their next assignment. YES, that would be politics. If speaking up for what you believe in,,, if that is the only motivation...gets you assigned a crap job on your next assignment ..whether in the corporate world or GOPE world...or RELIGIOUS WORLD...yes, that is politics.
So basically, you’re saying that anytime there’s some kind of conflict, it’s politics.
No, but I am really done with this whole discussion. My mind is completely blown by a CHurch Historian who refuses to acknowledge the role of the #2 guy in the Church who covered up the sex abuse...even when another Cardinal is on the record with the deeds. This poster is more concerned about calling me a liar than addressing the HORRIBLE abuse.
I am really disgusted by the whole topic and have to be done with it.

No fix was necessary. Romans 8:28: “For those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” “All things” includes both good and bad things - even bad people or people who do bad things. And Philippians 1:15-18 is still true no matter what.
I never suggested your church was going to die, only that it has shifted to the Left, from which I don't think it will return.
I fully expect your church will be the major player in the End Times One World Religion.

.....seemed to suggest you were saying the Holy Spirit tempted men to be found "wanting", to be used in His greater plan. Which in 1James 1:13 we know is not the case.
The question still remains as to how 120 Cardinals from all over the world, knowledgeable in the Faith, and seeking God's heart, all with conservative values as the Catholics on FR exclaim, would elect a man such as Pope Francis to lead them?
God has allowed it, and all things "work together for good".
Cling to that thought as you make your way through the seemingly endless barrage of threads on FR criticizing Pope Francis for his moving his (c)hurch further to the Left.

No one here claims they were ALL conservative. Pope Francis got elected because he was very different from Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul II.
