Breaking: In Wake of 4 Cardinals Letter, Pope Francis Rebukes ‘Legalism’ of Amoris Laetitia Critics

November 18, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Pope Francis has criticized the "legalism" of Catholics raising concern about his apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia mere days after four cardinals went public with their request that he clarify it.

“Some, as with certain responses to Amoris Laetitia, persist in seeing only white or black, when rather one ought to discern in the flow of life," Pope Francis said in an interview with Avvenire. "But these critiques – if they’re not from an evil spirit – do help. Some types of rigorism spring from the desire to hide one’s own dissatisfaction under armour."

On Monday, Cardinals Raymond Burke, Joachim Meisner, Walter Brandmüller, and Carlo Caffarra published a letter asking Pope Francis to answer five "yes or no" questions which would immediately clarify the meaning of the confusion-plagued document on points where theologians, priests, and even bishops have offered contradicting interpretations.

Their September 19, 2016 letter, called a "dubia," went unanswered, so the cardinals released it to the faithful with a note explaining their concerns.

Pope Francis took the unusual step this week of cancelling a scheduled meeting with the world's cardinals at this weekend's consistory. He will officially make a handful of bishops, including three Americans, cardinals this weekend.

According to the National Catholic Register's Ed Pentin, sources have told him Pope Francis is "not happy at all" and "boiling with rage."

He can criticize the letter, but he can't answer the questions.

Criticizing the “legalism” of the questioners, but not answering the questions, is what is called a “non-denial denial”.

So, he will “confirm” three heretical bishops as Cardinals without holding a meeting of the College of Cardinals? Is that an acceptable procedure?

And this Pope who preaches that everyone should be kind and sweet and forgiving is “boiling with rage”?

Where’s the lightning bolt? It’s far past time.

A long time ago, when I was studying for a degree in Roman Catholic Theology, a very devout professor stated that the pope has to be very careful when teaching. If a pope is about to teach an error as doctrine, the Lord will remove him from the office of Pope.

Cardinals don’t impeach ,they just add a little something to the Pope’s wine

I think making a harsh, dismissive criticism of esteemed colleagues and Princes of Church without having a dialogue because one is Pope is a bit of a legalism itself.

Rules must be written unambiguously, lest they become useless.

in this case, Francis appears to want to write ambiguous rules in order to render true statements of doctrine moot - because someone, somewhere, can use the ambiguous new rules to ignore the clear old ones.

Francis doesn’t seem to like being Catholic.

If a pope is about to teach an error as doctrine, the Lord will remove him from the office of Pope.

This Pope has been very careful to be consistently incoherent, avoiding that problem.

As long as Pope Benedict XVI is still alive there will be a legitimate question about whether Francis is even the real pope.

So let's see if I got this straight: four cardinals suggest that the Amoris Laetitia is inconsistent with specific spoken words of Christ as recorded in the Gospels. They ask for clarification if this is so. This "pope" refuses to answer which one can take as either arrogance ("who do they think thhey are, I don't answer to them!") or an inability to defend the inconsistency and still retain the heretical policies. But which is it?

This answer, where he rails agains the questions as overly legalistic, tells us. He doesn't like having to adhere to the direct spoken words of Christ. Doing so, in his mind, is too literal and gets in the way of his liberation theology.

This pope is a heretic.

It’s just Jesuit doubletalk. They are too intellectual to explain things in laymen terms.

What exactly is Amoris Laetitia?

So let’s just throw out the words of Christ, St Paul and St John Paul II on the moral law on marriage and the teaching on the Eucharist because legalism and the “flow of life”...

What exactly is Amoris Laetitia?

Per the Vatican:

The Vatican has published Pope Francis’ eagerly-awaited Apostolic Exhortation on the family, drawing together almost three years of consultations with Catholics in countries around the world.

The lengthy document, entitled ‘Amoris Laetitia’, or The Joy of Love, affirms the Church’s teaching that stable families are the building blocks of a healthy society and a place where children learn to love, respect and interact with others.

The problem is that Francis was ambiguous in places, leading to mass confusion on the part of cardinals, bishops, teachers in Catholic universities and seminaries, people in the pew, etc. The four cardinals who sent him the letter asking for clarification are trying to straighten it out, but Francis isn't playing along. By being confusing, he's trying to undermine the teachings of the Church by allowing different people to interpret the document differently, and the cardinals who wrote the letter are trying to not let him get away with it.

So the Cardinals ask for clarification on a confusing and ambiguous statement that the pope said and he responds by saying that their request comes from a evil spirit?

Legalism.

The go to excuse of a tyrant who would rather dictate than explain.
