You are missing the point. Yes we forgive seventy * seven (Infinity), that is a elementary concept.
Unfortunately humans cannot pierce the heart like God can and gage the actual intention. This is why grave sins that resonate far and wide must be consulted/determined that the repentance is genuine. This requires patience which is why there is a censure in the first place.
If the sinner is not truly repentant, than Christ commands the Church to kick them out, hence preserve/correct. Complex issues take a little more time and effort so that the sinner understands the ramifications, not just Spiritual, but temporal as well. This is done so they understand/change/stop behaviors "to sin no more."

You are missing the point.... I don't think I am. Do you hear what the Pope is saying or are you hearing what you want to hear?
There is no sin that Gods mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with the Father. This is an eternal truth!
