Jen Hatmaker, et al Announce Cancelation of 2017 Belong Tour

At the close of a 20-year run for the Women of Faith tour, the brand-new version of the women’s gathering with a much younger target demographic—the Belong Tour—was poised to take the reins as the next big event for evangelical women. But due to “critically low ticket sales and the high cost of producing these events,” the 2017 tour was canceled before the first scheduled event took place, according to the event organizers.

The event billed itself as a two-day event for “every woman—for conservatives and liberals, young and old, married and single, those who go to church and those who don’t, women of every background and race.” The tour was scheduled to feature prominent Christian bloggers and authors such as Jen Hatmaker, Shauna Niequist and Deidra Riggs, who would share stories, real-life insights and inspiration to women at gatherings across the country, running from August through December 2017.

“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry about what this means for all of you who’ve set aside the weekend, bought tickets, made plans for childcare or hotels and time off work,” Niequist said in a Facebook post to her fans. “The other speakers and I have prayed for Belong 2017, planned for it, dreamed about it and hoped for it.”

Tour information was replaced on the event website with instructions on how to receive a refund or trade for purchased tickets, as well as a promise that the tour would resume in 2018 for those who would like to keep their tickets for future use.

According to Christianity Today, thousands of women attended last year’s 12-city tour, but received criticism when surprise guest speaker Glennon Doyle Melton made an appearance on the tour. Melton, a popular blogger, recently divorced her husband and has since married soccer star Abby Wombach. Additionally, an interview with Hatmaker last year revealed her endorsement of same-sex relationships.

While it appeared as though the Belong Tour was set to be a successful spinoff to the Women of Faith tour, the emphasis in 2016 on speakers who represent what many in the evangelical world deem aberrant theological views could be a contributing factor in the decline of ticket sales. However, it remains to be seen what changes, if any, will be made to the program schedule in order to boost ticket sales for the 2018 tour.

The next to last paragraph tells the reader why they didn't have the sales. The reality is that they are selling a product and didn't take into account their customers wants and desires. This same thing will happen to any business venture when they sufficiently separate themselves from their customer base. They won't complain loudly. They'll just stop buying.

It was just a matter of time. There are those who have the gift of discernment. It would be wise to listen to them.

Well, I think it says far more about the demographic. My wife goes to a large Bible study-—very few under 30s. Part of is is time/career. Part of it is maturity.

Jen Hatmaker is an apostate. She’s pro gay rights, gay marriage, gay adoption, and has sympathy for every other leftist doctrine. She’s disgraced herself. I’m very glad that Evangelical Christians are catching on.

The reality is that they are selling a product and didn't take into account their customers wants and desires.

That may well be true but Hatmaker's SIN is that she has ceased to take into account the Lord's wants and desires.

Now we need women to wake up and flee Beth Moore.

There were those who hoped this group of women would appeal to a younger demographic so they changed the Bible to suit their needs. Thankfully, people aren’t having any part of it and keeping away.

Jen Hatmaker supports gay marriage and has called it holy.
Lifeway pulled all of her books because of her stand on this subject. I don’t understand how she reconciles this belief she suddenly has, with the Bible, or why she is baffled and feels persecuted when people don’t agree with her, and have stopped buying her books. I didn’t even know anything about her until recently.

After the Orlando shooting, this is what she posted on her Facebook”

“I’ve been listening to my gay friends and leaders the last two days… and this is what I am hearing: It is very difficult to accept the Christian lament for LGBTQ folks in their deaths when we’ve done such a brutal job of honoring them in their lives. Anti-LGBTQ sentiment has paved a long runway to hate crimes…. We are complicit.

It seems like the only harm toward the LGBTQ community that will overcome Christian disapproval is a mass murder.”

That’s disgusting. Only Omar Mateen is responsible and the death cult he worshipped.

Maybe I missed it, but have never seen one Christian throw a gay person off of a building.

What’s the matter with Beth Moore? I’ve done a few of her Bible Studies and they seem okay.

I love her teaching but she made an error in my view: She attacked candidate Trump and his supporters last fall.

Trump isn’t God. During the primaries, there was ample reason to criticize Trump.

Absolutely true — it’s the way she attacked the faith of his supporters. Some called it spiritual bullying — ‘if you were REAL Christians, then you would ....” type of comments.

Totally agree! I called her out publicly on her Facebook page when she went after Donald Trump. She lost me forever then.

Exactly. And my point was that if we didn’t stand up for Trump then we would be helping elect an abortion-promoting, anti-Christian woman. She got all bent out of shape because he said the “P” word. Good grief!

Do people like her need to reread the story of David? Geez.

I was a Cruz supporter, and I don’t like Trump’s crassness, but I figured if we got even 1 supreme court justice out of his pesidency it was worth me voting for him.

So far, we’ve gotten a lot more. I don’t blame Trump for the GOP congress failures on healthcare. Personally, if Congress got on the Trump train, things would go smoother.

Woder what she’s thinking since Trump has been the biggest defender of life of any president in my lifetime.

Okay, I was unaware of that. Sorry, I spoke uninformed. Don’t even know who the woman is.
