Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

Joshua 3

Crossing the Jordan

3 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits[a] between you and the ark; do not go near it.”

5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

6 Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them.

7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. 8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”

9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

1. Joshua 3:4 That is, about 3,000 feet or about 900 meters

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

At First Glance, this may look like a lesser replay of the Great Miracle of the red Sea Parting. It is, however, different in many respects:

1. The People. At the edge of the Red Sea, the people were escaped slaves, huddled together against the sea, with an advancing army about to annihilate them. They were fearful, disorganized, and needed to SEE the Sea part before they would venture into the gap. Crossing the Jordan was a whole new generation of People, organized, battle-ready, and victorious. They were more than a half-mile from the Ark of the Covenant, and probably could not even see the waters parting ahead (try to figure out what is going on with the car a half-mile ahead of you on the highway, and you will catch my drift! You just have to proceed in faith.) The Red Sea Generation were slaves, the Jordan Generation were a Nation.

2. Leadership Moses stretched out his staff, the waters parted, and the People passed through on dry land. Joshua, per instruction, had the Priests carry the Ark of the Covenant into the River, getting their feet wet, before the waters parted. The People, a half-mile back may or may not have seen the miracle until they arrived at the shore, but as Jesus said "Blessed is he who has not seen, but believes."(John 20:29)

3. The Ark of the Covenant and its Contents: The Ark Contained Three Items:

The Second Set of Stone Tablets Representing God's Law
The Pot of Manna representing God's Provision
The Budding Rod of Aaron representing God's Authority.

These Three Items said that Israel was a Nation, Under God, under the Rule of Law, with Liberty and Justice for all...(I know, I took that from somewhere...) and that This Nation, in Faith (because they couldn't see ahead, were trusting in God's Promise.

4. Motivation Simply put, At the Red Sea, the Israelites were fleeing out, and at the Jordan, they were Marching IN.

Today's passage is an inspiration to us all, to no longer look at obstacles as something to escape from, but as something to overcome, with God's help.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

from what I understand, Photobucket has terminated third-party hosting, meaning they have let down nearly ALL of their faithful customers.

I call that an unwise business decision!

Another good lesson that applies to us all, left that other site.

I found this verse interesting - It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam

I heard a sermon about these passages - as the Ark crossing was symbolic to death and resurrection of Jesus. And His redemption went back to Adam.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.

Indeed, because look what jumps out:

Crossing the Jordan

3 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits[a] between you and the ark; do not go near it.”

Shittim. The place name is the same as what the Ark was made out of:

Exodus 25:10 And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

(The Ark was 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 cubits. 5 5/8 cubic cubits, 45/8 cu.3 , 1/80,000 the volume of Noah's ark. Much to glean from the 45 and 8 relationship and equivalent fractions.)

So before crossing over, they camped right inside the Ark (Shittim), figuratively speaking. I suppose it's like the atmosphere or any type of 'bubble'. When people are inside of it, they don't see it.

2000 cubits:

Above Nature

We have noted that 50 represents the full journey toward acceptance of Torah in the 50 days bridging Pesach and Shavuos. The passage through life calls for the Jew to emulate the national passage to Sinai. He must proceed until the natural end – and then go beyond it. He must transcend the finite and touch the sublime 50th gate that belongs over and above the natural rules of This World.23

– 50: at a distance

The number 50 is used as the measure that places something at a distance. The Talmud notes the use of a rope measuring 50 cubits for matters such as measuring the 2,000-cubit distance of techum Shabbos, the distance beyond the city one may travel on Shabbos.24 Because of the negative impact of a granary, leather tannery, and cemetery, these were not halachically permitted to be located within 50 cubits of the city.25 Of course, the 50-day journey from Egypt to Sinai ensured that Israel was no longer under the sinful influence of their idolatrous past.

50: at a distance = 58

Hawaii is the 50th and most recent state to have joined the United States of America, having received statehood on August 21, 1959.

A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, August 21, 2017. It will be visible in totality only within a band across the entire contiguous United States.

58 years. Noah (נח). grace (חן). 2017 - 58th Presidential Inauguration

4. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits [207 - ohr, light] by measure; do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go; for you have not passed this way [969] before:

By measure: a 50 cubit measure, times 40 = 2000, plus 17 for good (tov, טוב) measure. :)

Noah + grace = Yinon (ינון).

nun + chet <-> chet + nun, a mirrored reflection in water.

It would help to explain the mirrored letters in Psalm 72:17, centered on the mem of the word shemesh, sun. It matches Bilaam's "vision of Shaddai I saw falling". Sun + water = rainbows

Pardon the apparent weirdness at the end, LTOS. It just needs to be 'out there' for later.

And Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
