Christ's Deity Defended

“[Christ] existed in the form of God” (Philippians 2:6).

Scripture makes clear that Christ is God.

The deity of Christ is the heart of the Christian faith. Inevitably when people attack the Christian faith, they attack the deity of Christ. Scripture makes clear, however, that such attacks are unfounded. The apostle John said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he began his Gospel by affirming the deity of Christ. John further declared Christ’s deity when he wrote, “All things came into being through [Christ], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men” (vv. 3-4). In John 8:58 Jesus said, “Before Abraham was born, I AM.” Jesus appropriated to Himself the name of God, who said, “I AM WHO I AM” (Ex. 3:14).

In Colossians 1:15-17 the apostle Paul wrote of Christ’s deity: “He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Christ is God, the Creator. The writer of Hebrews says, “[Christ] is the radiance of [God’s] glory and the exact representation of His nature” (1:3). Christianity begins with the recognition that Jesus Christ is in essence the eternal God.

Whenever someone confronts you by attacking the deity of Christ, be sure to defend the faith, “holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching” (Titus 1:9).

Suggestions for Prayer

At the core of defending God’s Word is an accurate interpretation of Scripture. Ask Him to help you interpret His Word accurately (see 2 Tim. 2:15).

For Further Study

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word,” which undoubtedly reminded John’s readers of Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” What do the following verses demonstrate about Christ: 1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 3:19; Hebrews 1:1-2?

You are free to disagree, but you cannot change the meanings of the Greek words.

Peter is NOT the rock on which Jesus is building His church.

John 1;40 and 42 tells very plain that Jesus told
Simon he would be called Cephas which is rock when
applied to human.

But it has already been translated and retrAnslated
and I am OK with the one we have.

It is one Scripture at a time for me, I can not go all
over the place.

So if the prots keep being in denial of this Scripture
what is the point In going any farther.?

Where does this fad?? of denying every thing Jesus said
come from?

I disagree bro. Big surprise there, huh? 😀 Jesus founded His church on Himself. By the way bro, is it still true you have NO assurance of salvation? Best be careful not to end up in this place dude. 🔥 Praise God for Martin Luther and the Navigators. 🤣

Nobody has everything right about everything. Therefore, Catholics also have a belief problem, too.

WRONG....they have it right...all others seek their own interpretations....and they are Wrong.

Get a clue bro, it’s 3 zillion now, but whose counting? So tell me dude, is it true you no longer have any assurance of salvation? Did you ever have any? How did you lose it? Where are you going when you croak? Inquiring minds want to know.

you prottys drop out of Christ's church and you decide that you make the rules....good luck with that....Catholics are the ONLY Christian denomination who are ASSURED that they are on the DIRECT road to salvation. Christ established a church.....1600 or more years later, you guys decide to do it your own way.....why, I will NEVER understand and above all....your decision CANNOT be right.....under any and all circumstances....you are going against the true church established by Christ Himself......sigh.

If you are believing in the wrong Jesus, then it’s not going to help you one iota to *believe* in him.

They engage in cult speak. Jesus, to you and I, means the Jesus of the Bible. The Jesus of the cults, is a Jesus that does not exist. There are many people who believe in the cultic Jesus. I am not one of them. I used to be, when I was a member of a false religion, which will remain unnamed, but you know exactly what it was. 😆😁 I cannot believe that people still remain in that cult. 👎I think with some of them, there really isn’t any reason to discuss it with them.

Sorry bro, but I think that is horse hockey. Here are two verses for you to attempt to understand. 1 Cor 1:18, and 1 Cor 2:14. See if you can figure those out.

That's cause we follow JESUS, not a church or religion, no matter whose they claim to be.

Some verses to ponder although I doubt reading them will do you any good.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 2:1-16 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

So.....Jesus and His Apostles were so inept that the church which THEY FOUNDED....didn't know what it was doing.....NO, it faltered for 1,600 years until a dissident Catholic priest emerged to set the world straight about how the ORIGINAL Christian church was defective......O.K., I guess, if you can like with that I suppose that it is O.K......frankly, I think I'll stay with the original, first and only authentic Christian church on Earth....the Catholic church and its Orthodox brethren.
