Continuing Annual Tradition, Pontiffs Pray and Speak Privately
Pope Francis visited Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Thursday afternoon to personally give his Christmas greetings to the Pontiff Emeritus at his residence at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Vatican City, reported the Holy See Press Office.
As has become their tradition, they prayed together briefly and then spent some time having pleasant conversation. The visit lasted about 30 minutes.
In various occasion, Pope Francis likened Benedict XVIs presence in the Vatican to having a wise grandfather living at home.

The Black Pope and the White Pope together, time for Jesus to put an end to this.
I'm not Catholic but even to me there seems something peculiar about these dueling popes. I think you have to go back to the 1400s or 1500s for the last time when there were two living popes.
Better than the picture Drudge had up all of Christmas.
what’s wrong with this picture, imho, is that the wrong pope is pope
Comrade Pope just had to go over and rub it in.
It’s a great mystery. Pope Benedict would never have surrendered to protect himself. He must have done it for the good of the Church, although I still don’t understand why. But evidently they threatened to do something even worse if he didn’t resign.
But then he refused to step down as they expected, but remained Pope Emeritus.
Let us pray that God will straighten this out.
Benedict should have punched Francis in the face - for the good of the Church....
Francis is checking to make sure Benedict is still imprisoned in the Tower.
But which is Childe Roland?
The Italian new papers have several stories on the books claiming Benedict was blackmailed.
All this would not have happened if it was not for Vat. II.
1963 was NOT a good year for the RC Church.
The 1960s were NOT good years for the world. Almost all the ills of the world which now trouble us had their genesis in the 1960s.
I'm always baffled by those who feel nostalgia for those years. Those were horrible times and I would not want to relive them.
I would respectfully suggest that God doesn’t give two hoots about Popes. I am pretty sure he gave us free will so that we could make up our minds.
If I were the pope I would be really afraid of end times.
I’m sure Benedict set Francis straight on his heresies. I’m sure Benedict, the “true pope”, will save the Church. /s
Duelling popes? They are two peas in the same Modernist pod.
Francis was just making sure Benedict hadn’t escaped.
