According to the massive John Jay College study 4% of Catholic Clergy have been involved in some sort of sexual misconduct. This is considered an authoritative study as they had unprecedented access to diocesan records.

How did they count the abused victims who were to embarassed, humiliated, or fearful to come forward?

So did the Southern Baptists. They all did it.

I suggest you do your own study.

John Jay College went through every diocese and went through every account. 4% is still many many people. Far too many, but not near as bad as people believe.

It is very close to the numbers n the PA study.

“Not just a Catholic problem.”

Wishful fantasy by someone who wants to pretend all religions have the same problem that the Roman Catholic church does!

The problems referenced in this article - which was hyperventilation by a rather prissy seminary instructor - involved counseling a woman to stay with an abusive husband (done decades ago) or admitting in public that teen boys will notice a beautiful teen girl - as do old men! In SOME baptists circles, a man noticing that any woman other than his wife is alive is considered cause for concern, although most of the Baptist men I’ve known take a much more realistic view!

Baptists do NOT have a big problem with homosexual abuse of teen boys, nor do they have a hierarchy that CAN cover it up. There simply is no one in the SBC who can transfer a Baptist preacher ANYWHERE. And this article didn’t reference any widespread pastor/sex issues - hetero or homo.

As in ANY human field, there are some who use their authority to further sin, including sex. But it cannot be systemic, because there is no system. Local churches are completely autonomous.

John Jay College went through every diocese and went through every account.

How were they able to count the abuse that was never reported to the diocese?

They are not omniscient.

It must be that they only counted what was reported.

If you really think that, then you do not understand what the Roman hierarchy did to sacrifice children.

absolutely it is too low- the roman catholic church has covered this issue up for decades now- covered up heinous crimes by pedophiles, whom the church allows and encourages to join- they aqren’t all of a sudden going to come clean about the amount of crimes having been committed under their watch- they covered up crimes for crying out loud- and we’re to believe they won’t lie to keep the cover-up going?

A poster posted about ‘massive John Jay college study’? like the catholic church is going to bear it’s crime covering soul up to college students and come clean on the actual scope of the crimes? I seriously doubt that- As well- homosexual and pedo crimes are not going to be reported to the police- they are going to be hushed by the church-

I noted that someone posted the ‘studies’ indicating that the baptists engaged in ‘inappropriate sexual misconduct’ 14%- We’re not talking about ‘inappropriate sexual misconduct’ here- The issue is homo and pedo rapes committed by an institution and covered up by a Church for decades- The 14% stat of baptists makes no mention of the % that were outright homo or pedo rapes- ‘inappropriate sexual misconduct’ can refer to anything- unwanted suggestions, unwanted advances between adult heteros- unwanted affections- innapropriate comments towards others etc- Those things are not what we’re discussing as the poster who posted the stats full well knows-

Yep- all religions have their bad eggs, and crimes are committed in most religions and shoudl be dealt with properly- not internally- route out the bad eggs in any religion- absolutely- but the massive coverup of homo and pedo rapes was done by the catholic church on a large scale-, not other religions to my knowledge-
