I remember watching Bishops Sheen as a child. We all did, sitting together in the living room with our one black and white TV set.
After WW II and in the decade after Korea there was a sociocultural consensus in America that was destroyed in the 60s and will likely never come again.
Yes America was a great Nation then, and it was great to be an American.

Indeed. And he took to the air at a time when anti-Catholic bias was far greater than now. His broadcasts helped many non- Catholics see a positive side of RCC teaching ... including many things they could agree with- or at least respect.
