I like this rendition of the verse better too. Mostly because it provides the foundation for George Whitefields wonderful sermon The Almost Christian.

A trade organization called the ECPA keeps track of Bible sales per translation. Currently the top 10 is:
1 New International Version
2 King James Version
3 New Living Translation
4 English Standard Version
5 New King James Version
6 Christian Standard Bible
7 Reina Valera
8 New International Reader’s Version
9 The Message
10 New American Standard Bible
The top 10 has basically been the same for about the last 10 years maybe more. Notice the lack of the following: The Jerusalem Bible, New American Bible, The D/R translation in all it’s variations...you get my point I hope.

Thus, the word "sodomite" does not appear in any edition of the NIV.
One study aid I have not seen mentioned is The New Treasury Of Scriptural Knowledge - its the largest collection of scriptural cross references you can get.
Read the WHOLE Bible. Read a Catholic Bible.
Now, if only Roman Catholics would do this...and in context.
*****
Read a Catholic Bible.
Which one?
Rome has changed its "official" version much as it seems to change its "official" theology.
I don’t disagree with you that the NIV has it’s issues. The 1984 are earlier versions are way better in my opinion that the newer revisions.
However none of them are perfect even if they were we wouldn’t know it because we don’t have the original autographs to compare. But like you I have a bunch of translations for study. I generally stick with the NKJV, the KJV and the NASB. Lately and I don’t know if it’s because I’m lazy or another reason but I usually don’t use anything other than the NKJV.
Happy reading!
Thank you but I wasn’t really that curious. I assumed though that he is of a reformed tradition.
BFL
I prefer a reverse interlinear - it find the easier to use.
As long as its an essentially literal version (and the NKJV is) I think one should go with the one they enjoy the most - it makes it more likely theyll spend time in scripture.
I understand, I took two years of Attic Greek so I like to dive in from the Greek first (if only to keep my Greek up-to-date)
Once the Translators substitute the Tetragrammaton with Titles their entire work becomes suspect.
Im sure youre aware that the ECBA is an evangelical organization that rates its lists of most popular among its members who happen to evangelical Protestants. Its hardly surprising that Catholic translations would not be on their list.
I only use the KJV in English and the Reina-Valera Antigua in Spanish.
The KJV is the only Bible that is not confusing. Remember it only takes one generation to make a word archaic. By the way...I believe the KJV is the only english language bible that does not have a copyright.
I have both interlinears and reverse interlinears. I have to confess I hardly use them. I also have several renditions of greek and hebrew dictonary/lexicon keyed to Strong’s and I also hardly use them either. But I do have them.
And you think that official Catholic Bible sales would be in the top 10 if there was justice in this world?
