The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Have you reaf John Noonan's book: Contraception ? According to this study of the Church's position, the early Christians generally adopted Jewish morality, except with a higher regard for celibacy and like many Jews definitely rejected Greco-Roman sexual practices , including homosexuality and infanticide. Of course, it is wrong to lump all Jews of that time together, as their opinions ranged from totally Hellenized to the opposite.

I love hugs and kisses from my kids, but when I tell them to pick up their room I expect them to pick up their room, not to stall by showering me with hugs and kisses.

Hugs and kisses have their place too. But we are in agreement here. Love and obedience have to be present - one being there doesn't necessarily mean the other is.

Could I interrupt your show of righteousness for just one moment. Just about every thread I visit has some kind of witness for Christ on it. No unbeliever will ever go without seeing something on these threads (maybe on this thread). If the Spirit prompts them to inquire further they will.

I'm with Invincibly here...if someone isn't ready to hear God's word it's only gonna piss em off and harden their hard even more. If they're ready, God will steer them to where they need to go.

I Timothy 4:1-5
I have posted on this thread a few times before, but thank you for your gracious welcome.

I must've missed it. After reading it, it's clearly a prediction of apostacy, but we disagree that the Catholic Church is the one that "depart(ed) from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctines of devils."

Glad to have you on board. Should I add you to my daily scripture ping list?

Your post is such a sad misuse of your zeal for the Lord Jesus Christ. You cannot see how obedience flowers from Love for Jesus Christ because you allow your emotions against the Holy Catholic Church to up-end all of your faculties. As your post exposes your heart with regard to the Catholic faith, I will pray for your healing and deliverance from that spirit of rage which corrupts the gift of righteous anger into fury against Christ's Holy Catholic Church. By the wounds of the divine Saviour Christ the Lord, may you be healed in body, mind, and spirit.

By his stripes I am already healed and have the spirit operating in me. Thank you for your misplaced but well intended concern. My words are because I stick to Scripture and the word of God. Jesus is the Word of God. He is the foundation of our faith. If you are building doctrine on any other foundation than the word, you are building on sinking sand.

For 19 centuries, until 1930 in fact, Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox commentators were in unanimous agreement on their interpretation of this passage: Onan attempted to have the pleasure of intercourse, but defrauded it of its procreative meaning by withdrawing. That this was a violation of the earlier commandments in Genesis was underscored by the magnitude of the divine penalty - God apparently took this very seriously!

The sin of Onan was not mastubation, although I believe that is a sin, it was selfishness. He didn’t want to have to share his inheritance with anyone. If he had raised up seed to his older brother his share of the inheritance would have been drasitically cut. He would have gone from a 75/25 split with Shelah to a 50/25/25 split between his older brother’s “seed”, himself, and Shelah.

BTW, what is your view on vasectomies or tying off a woman's tubes? They prevent sperm from joining with egg, thus they do not end a human life, unlike the "Pill".

Re 2683

Only one is both guilty of martyring saints and guilty of the blood of those that were martyred at the hands of others. That is the Church of Rome. That inflames some. But it is an unavoidable truth. No other Government since the time of Christ has been situated such that it both directly and indirectly was responsible for the deaths of Christians.

And here:

And scripture points to the Roman Church as the ONLY organization since christ that is both guilty of the blood and martyrs of Christians - ie the whore of Babylon.

Havoc, might I suggest you go to any search engine and enter the words "Roman Empire"?

(No other government, my ass.)

Amazing. Simply amazing. I rest my case.

It is, for sure. There is ample evidence of claims such as the ones made by Havoc being made, which are then followed by silence when asked for references or a discussion.

"On another thread, Dr. Brian Kopp has challenged my objectivity..."

Objectivity? - Who here is truly objective? - I'm not; I'm to provide my opinion on significant issues. - What would the yardstick of objectivity be?

Brian Kopp is at best disingenuous in his acusation.

Hey, if Havoc and paynomind and these others can say the things they say, and never apologize for their sin, then we can be blunt too, without being accused of baiting, right?

So...

When you're equally hated by the liberals, homosexual activists, abortionists, population controllers, the UN, feminists, agnostics, atheists, communists, etc, as well as the fundamentalists and bible only folks, you know ya' just gotta be doing something right.

Frankly the more they attack, the deeper my faith gets. I makes me realize more than ever we fight alongside Christ, and the forces of anti-Christ are arrayed against His body, the Church.

Wonder why they never stop to contemplate the company they keep in deriding Catholicism? Why are they blind to the mutual masturbation sodomitic sin in their very marital bed, sin hated by God yet taught as good by their church, yet point repeatedly at priest sinners violating the teaching of our church, which still calls sin sin.

Surely, the Whore of Babylon would be in league with the liberals, homosexual activists, abortionists, population controllers, the UN, feminists, atheists, communists, etc.

But those folks hate us just as much as these anti-Catholic Jack Chick types here.

Don't they ever stop to look around them at the company they're keeping and question where exactly they stand??? Do they not realize they themselves where they stand, alongside all the other little anti-Christs arrayed against Christ and His Church?

Do they not realize that true believers are not deceived by their propaganda?

We have 2000 years of the teaching of Christ and proper interpretation of scripture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and through the authority Christ granted His Church. We don't need their fallible personal interpretation of these various scriptural proof texts taken out of context. We know and understand their true context and their proper interpretation and we don't need the only-500-years-old-protestant-revolt-against-the-authority-Christ-gave-His-church-new-false-gospel-anti-Catholic-bigoted-interpretation.

My apologies for being uncharitable. I know in their own little minds they mean well, and think they are doing god's work. No one rises in the morning and does evil thinking they are doing evil. Many in our age raise in the morning thinking they are doing good and the Lord's work yet are really doing evil.

Time is too short to waste on these folks. The truth has been preached to them on this forum repeatedly. If they continue to refuse it, it is nigh about time to stop casting pearls, and shake the dust off our feet.

Yeah, Satan knows the right address.

And his minions (here on FR and throughout this culture) do his bidding wittingly and unwittingly. May God have mercy on them.

You must have missed the Bible quotes I posted yesterday. Carry on. Jack Kemp quotes must serve your purposes better. I don't see any dates for the events. Be careful how you read signs. Like the farmer who saw a sky-writing plane tracing "G.P" above him. He interpretated this as "Go Preach." After he had done this for a number of years without success, he confided his frustration to a friend. "God said" "Go preach." His friend replied," Maybe He was telling you"Go plow."

We hear a lot about "Bloody Mary," but nothing about the secret police of the Elizabethan regime. The government of "Good Queen Bess" executed more people for religious reasons than than Mary did, including of course, Mary, Queen of Scots.

Good point, wide is the gate and many there be that go in there at. Hell has been filling up for centuries by those described below. What a horrible thought, those who believed they were followers of Christ but deceived by principalities and powers of this world pay the high price of their own souls. I hope and pray what I see is in error and God has somehow extended His mercy far more than we read in scripture.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

I sincerely hope no one thinks making a lie is anything like cheating on their taxes. When you witness to something that is doctrinally unsound IT IS A LIE!

Aahh, gonna go out and buy a King James Bible? ;^)

The title of Queen for the Blessed Mother of Jesus Christ is by virtue of Christ being the rightful Davidic King and His mother rightfully fulfilling the office of Queen Mother. In reviewing the office of the Queen Mother in the House of David, you will find how petitions are brought to her to bring to the attention of the king. The Queen Mother's presence is a sign of the fulness of the Davidic kingdom and its continuity and her office a legitimate means by which to address the king and seek his favor. So it is with the Blessed Mother of Jesus who by right holds the Davidic office of Queen Mother and by her glorious Assumption into heaven takes her righful place beside her son Christ the King of all that is and all that will ever be.

Sorry, nice fairy tale; but, it isn't reality. The OT specifically denounces and forbids every form of communication with the dead - and in several places has God saying 'why do they go to the dead instead of coming to me.' Ecclesiastes 9 says those who die and are buried no longer have any more effect on ANYTHING that happens under the sun. Exodus 20 states that making images and bowing to them is Hateful before God. Seems none of you are capable of reading unless it suites your purposes.

They are still immoral, as they represent a turning away from God, a refusal of His gift of new life. We see marriage as a sacrament, which is renewed with each "marital act." It is in this act that God can bring new life into the world, and you may recall that children are viewed in the Bible as a blessing, not a burden.

The marital act serves to unite the man and wife and to provide for this transmission of new life. To "doctor" oneself to thwart God in this giving of life is quite ingracious.
