The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

I appreciate all the insight on the issue of Birth Control!

I promise, even Kopp's article will be viewed objectively.
I have always had a notion against it though my wife has used it before.

If I find compelling evidence supporting an "abortion like" effect, I will do what I can to convince the Mrs' about other alternatives.

Any links or articles about "natural" BC ("how to") would be greatly appreciated!!

Do we wait for God to literally "give us this day our daily bread", or do we work for the money to earn it, and then go to the store and buy it?

All we have, all we do comes from God. Our jobs, our homes, our lives, etc. So ... He does provide our daily bread. We may think we're providing it ourselves, but we are nothing without God.

"Apart from me, you can do nothing."

The title of Queen for the Blessed Mother of Jesus Christ is by virtue of Christ being the rightful Davidic King and His mother rightfully fulfilling the office of Queen Mother. In reviewing the office of the Queen Mother in the House of David, you will find how petitions are brought to her to bring to the attention of the king. The Queen Mother's presence is a sign of the fulness of the Davidic kingdom and its continuity and her office a legitimate means by which to address the king and seek his favor. So it is with the Blessed Mother of Jesus who by right holds the Davidic office of Queen Mother and by her glorious Assumption into heaven takes her righful place beside her son Christ the King of all that is and all that will ever be.

I am sorry father_elijah but that sounds like you guys are having to stretch quite a bit in order to justify the many titles you have bestowed upon Mary.

The Orthodox Christian belief on this is apparently similar to the orthodox Jewish teaching. We look at the openness to children overall, rather than considering every single sexual act.

That's a good summation of the Anglican teaching, as well.

NFP is the option that my wife and I are going to take. Our first class is April 19. We're really looking forward to it.

Be truthful now, are you looking forward to the class, or the homework? ;^)

Pssst...havoc, ask him what Paul meant in Romans 13:9, or what John meant in 1 John 5:3...

He hasn't addressed the first bit of scripture, why feed him more. The only thing this man seems capable of is spitting out sugary sounding philosophy. He's an ear tickler - and so far as I can see, that's all. Are we sure he isn't a dentist. I thought men of God represented God's word, not their own philosophies.

Genesis 38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

ROFL.

Here is the proposition: Contraception, even among married folks, is immoral. It is sodomy.

Who among the NCs here will defend or attack this statement?

You guys asked for a response. I gave you one in post #2877. Any response? If not, I guess we can assume that you realized that you were wrong.

It would be wise (if you choose this route) to enroll in classes instead of just trying to wing it. But here's some links for you in the mean time ...

2 Thes 3:15. Stand firm then, in the traditions you have been taught, whether by word or by my epistle. Paul seems here to say only that there is a tradition. And you should not say that only that doctrine explicitly stated in Scripture is to be held, or else where does sola Scriptura> come from?

Seems none of you are capable of reading unless it suites your purposes.

Actually this does not describe us as much as it describes you. Curious that you take bits and pieces of the Hebrew Bible and let them trump the clear teaching of Jesus Christ.

You don't get it at all.

No, I do get it. The difference is that you accept anything that sounds good and conforms to all the other convoluted abstract thoughts your church has had for centuries. The Word is the foundation which was laid, all other is sinking sand. That includes your abstract thought.

You can't help but notice that this is not asking Mary to pray for us at all, but is asking her to do things with her own power. Kind of a subtle change isn't it?

Everything Mary has comes from God. And her will is one with His Will. Every Orthodox and Catholic Christian knows that. The pity is that Evangelical Christians are cut off from their Mother Mary because of their steadfast anti-Catholicism and thereby are not able to keep the teaching of honoring father and mother. If you are in Christ Jesus, then she is your mother too and she deserves all the honor you can muster.

Oh, litanies not only apply to St. Mary. In my old prayer book there is a litany of St. Jospeh that assigns to me 24 "titles". This is what one does when one writes an adulation of a person. Sort of like George Washington, father of his country; first president of the United States, hero of the revolution.

I'm going to bow out of this thread now

I've dreamed many dreams that never came true.

And seen them vanish at dawn.

But I've realized enough of my dreams, thank God

To make me want to dream on.

I've prayed many prayers when no answer came

Though I waited patient and long,

But answers have come to enough of my prayers

To make me want to pray on.

That's very nice but there is no scripture behind it at all. Where is the scripture that says she can hear prayers, where is the scripture that says she can respond to prayers, where is the scripture that says she was given power to do these things? etc etc etc.
