The Catholic scholars had to make relativly few corrections. But they did correct that passage. Given the heat the issue raises outside the RC Church, it seems clearly "political" for the RSV(p) to translate the passage as they do.

The RSV was translated from the original tongues. While the scholars might have had a copy of the Vulgate just for kicks, it had no part in the translations for the RSV.

Why do you suppose the Catholic scholars who compiled the NAB chose the "Protestant" translation of "favored" vs "grace"?
