The one in Chartres is not around the Altar and it is nothing more than floor decoration and has only begun to be "used" by New Age types in the last part of the twentieth century. The same people on the labyrinth bandwagon are enamored of enneagrams and other such trifles. You want a journey with God? Go on an Ignation 30 day retreat.

Yes, he was referring to him. Our former priest was a past abuser. He went through 10 yrs of treatment and as far as anyone knows he has never offended again in the past 25 yrs. Our bishop, knowing this, assigned him to our parish at the end of '98 because Bishop Hubbard assured him that the priest was fine. And in reality he did behave. I do imagine that if Hubbard is fighting against zero tolerance for past abuse it is probably because of this priest.

Perhaps the following article that I just posted will help claify your bishop's stance. Hubbard played a key role in reversing the zero tolerance policy at the USCCB.

...I would also suggest that pressing for a restoration of the right orderin the American Church is a waste of effort. That Church has embraced the surrounding culture to such a degree that restoration is a pipe dream. Rather like envisioning the restoration of a gothic cathedral out of the World Trade Towers.

I could be wrong but I believe the Chartres labyrinthe was made as a substitute for the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the days when pligrimaging in that direction usually cost you your head. So they walked the labyrinthe instead.
