I think I know where the urban legends about black names (Female, Placenta, Nosmo King, ect) come from. They're Mormon names. But most people don't know that, so they get attached to blacks instead.

Truth is stranger than fiction here! (My mormon friends all seem to gravitate to normal baby names thank God!)

I know silly pagan folks who name their kids sort of normal names. My favorite Hippie name is Sunshine. Little brain function and the politics are a bit obvious!

[How would you like to be named after your birth order?]

Just like everyone who's anyone in ancient Rome: Quintus, Sixtus, Septimus, Octavian, Decimus

... Maybe I'll name the next baby Septimus!

I know a couple who named their first baby girl "Celeste Jewel" (celestial, if you say it fast enough).

"Are those your real names?"

LOL!

No for me. I use the names of characters from movies I like for online aliases. (so can you guess where Grig comes from without checking the IMDB?)

I have no Utah ancestry at all and this name thing is one of many reasons I pray I never have to move to Utah (no offense meant Utah Girl).

My wife actually has an ancestor who lead a group away from the church right after Joseph was killed, so she does have relatives that live there, but I don't think any of her ancestors actually grew up there. Her names in her family are normal.

For our kids the first names are very normal, although in some cases the spelling is one of the less common (but not totaly invented by us) form. We use a first names of one of our own parents or siblings for the middle name.

My last name is sometimes a pain. It's Danish, but most people think it's from the French (especial where I am now) and then totaly spell and say it wrong.

Well, I'm Bob, and my siblings are Don, Sue, Christine, and other "normal" names, but we were raised in California.

My wife's brothers' kids are true-born Utahn, though. Tandishea, Shylar Jake, Trista, Joss, Bo, Brock, Tanisha, Tyrell, and several others...

The person I sent it to doesn't like to talk poitics so I only sent the article text.

I'm as amused by this as any of you and often poke fun at 'Utah Mormons' who are a different breed than the rest of us Mormons IMHO.
