It was a venture born of desperation. Four months into quarantine, Yohana Agurto, an unemployed teacher in Chile, was scrolling through social media to take her mind off her dwindling savings and the four children she had to feed. Inspiration struck when she and her boyfriend came across a post with a photo of the American actor Mel Gibson. Agurto remembered she had a large stash of organic honey in the pantry. Mel sounds quite similar to the Spanish word for honey, miel. So on a whim, Agurto had a graphic designer friend sketch out a logo with a scene...

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A middle school teacher is behind bars after authorities say she had sexual relations with a juvenile. Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49-year-old Leslie Bushart of Lakeland Thursday. “During her arrest, she told detectives that she has been a teacher for 29 years. Please refer all inquiries regarding her employment to the Polk County School Board,” officials said. The investigation into the teacher began on June 16 after the boy’s parents contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Mel Gibson was fired from a movie after Winona Ryder accused him of anti-Semitic and anti-gay comments decades ago. So why is this famous movie star and director treated this way, while so many people excused George Floyd's (and Winona Ryder's) past?

Oberlin College and Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo have filed their Appeal Brief (pdf.) in the Gibson’s Bakery case. The NAACP also has filed an Amicus Brief (pdf.) in support of the college. Full copies of both briefs are at the bottom of this post. The Oberlin College Brief is redacted because some information was filed under seal (the information at issue in the various motions to unseal we previously covered). It’s not clear whether any Amicus Briefs will be filed supporting the Gibsons, to my knowledge no one is coming to their assistance...The NAACP Amicus Brief is the easiest...

Hutton Gibson, a Roman Catholic traditionalist and outspoken critic of the modern church who gained wide notoriety as the father of the actor Mel Gibson and for his anti-Semitic views, died on May 11 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He was 101. His death, at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, was not publicized at the time. It was confirmed by a search of a California records database. Requests for information from several family members, including his son Mel, were not answered. Hutton Gibson belonged to a splinter group of Catholics who reject the reforms of the Second Vatican Council of...

Judge ruled that “risk of injury to persons” and “individual privacy rights and interests” prevailed over what the Gibsons alleged was collusion between the college and Cleveland media to “dox” Allyn D. Gibson...As part of that campaign seeking to impugn the Gibsons post-trial, Oberlin College sought to unseal the confidential Facebook records of Allyn D. Gibson, the store clerk whose stop of a black Oberlin College student for shoplifting sparked the protests, accusations of racial profiling, business cut-off, and eventually, lawsuit and jury trial. The student, along with two other students, later pleaded guilty to offenses related to the shoplifting.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly bought Mel Gibson's £12million ($15million) mansion in Malibu. The royal couple moved to California from Vancouver at the end of last month and were said to be interested in the five-bedroom home. In a now deleted Instagram post, local LA estate agent Andrea Pilot last week posted 'Big news Prince Harry & Meghan buy Mel Gibson's house.' The firm selling the property have not confirmed news of a royal purchase, but a source claimed to the Sun the property, in one of Los Angeles' glitziest enclaves, had been sold.

Inside Gibson’s, the atmosphere is quiet and subdued. It’s clear that this little business and its owners have endured a great deal in the past three years, beginning with student protests in front of the store in November 2016. The protesters denounced the Gibson family as racist and claimed the store had a long history of racial profiling (none of which is true). Evidence introduced at trial established that the college facilitated these protests and that at least one senior college official actively participated in them. Following the protests, the college suspended its 100-year business relationship with Gibson’s Bakery.

I appeared tonight on Tucker Carlson Tonight to provide an update on the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case. It was my first time doing an on-set interview, and it was fun. TUCKER: In late 2016, three students at Oberlin college, maybe the most liberal college in the country, tried to rob a small family business near the school called Gibson’s Bakery. Tried to steal a bottle of booze among other things. When they were caught, one of them assaulted the son of the bakery’s owner, physically. One response to that, Oberlin college amazingly attack the bakery as racist and...

I never gave the "Deep State" much thought until the Democrats and Mainstream Media and more than a few Republicans started to go all out to: 1. Get Hillary Elected, and then2. Get Trump to Resign, after he won. I have seen the Media and Dems gang up on Republican Presidents before, but that was unreal in late 2016 and early 2017.It remains unreal with the latest effort. So, starting in 2017, I really started to pay attention and try to follow what was driving the Democrats and Media's madness and hatred for Trump. A number of like minded Twitterers...

Judge denies Oberlin College’s request to unseal Gibson Bakery store clerk’s Facebook records

There have been many strange motions and actions in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case. A post-trial motion by Oberlin College to unseal Facebook records may be one of the more strange developments, and offers a window into the bitter feelings of college officials. Allyn D. Gibson (Allyn D.) is the grandson of plaintiff Allyn W. Gibson (“Allyn W.”) and the son of plaintiff David Gibson. Allyn D., who was not a party in the lawsuit, was the store clerk on duty who caught an Oberlin College student shoplifting. The scuffle that ensued, involving two additional Oberlin College students,...

Property Records Reveal Gibson Family Holdings

Property records obtained through the Lorain County Auditor’s office reveal that the Gibson family, who recently won a $25 million judgement in the lawsuit they filed against Oberlin College and Vice President and Dean of Students Meredith Raimondo, own property within Oberlin city limits worth approximately $1.7 million, a sum figure not previously discussed in the media. The value assessments are calculated by the auditor’s office using tax information and in-person assessments. The figure does not include properties owned outside of Oberlin or controlled through Off Street Parking, Inc. — a corporation in which David Gibson owns a majority stake....

In the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case, the judgment for the plaintiffs amounted to almost $32 million in damages and defendants were required to post a $36 million bond to secure the judgment pending appeal. Before appealing, Oberlin College filed two post-trial motions, a Motion for Judgment Notwithstanding The Verdict (pdf.) and Motion for a New Trial (pdf.), as explained in our post, Oberlin College Seeks New Trial in Gibson’s Bakery Case. Gibson’s Bakery responded with an Opposition to the Motion for Judgment Notwithstanding The Verdict (pdf.), and Opposition to the Motion for a New Trial (pdf.), as explained...

Gibson’s Bakery: Oberlin College’s request for a new trial is “baseless”

“Defendants’ challenge to the libel verdicts consists mostly of regurgitated arguments that this Court already decided during summary judgment briefing and that can be dismissed out of hand.” Oberlin College will appeal, of course, but before has filed two post-trial motions, a Motion for Judgment Notwithstanding The Verdict (pdf.) and Motion for a New Trial (pdf.). As explained in our post, Oberlin College Seeks New Trial in Gibson’s Bakery Case, most of those motions were uninteresting rehashing of arguments previously litigated and rejected by the trial Judge John Miraldi. The only interesting part of the motions was the issue of...

Oberlin College Seeks New Trial in Gibson’s Bakery Case Comments Permalink Posted by William A. Jacobson Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 9:30pm “A new trial is warranted here to address a litany of errors” Everyone is waiting for the appeal in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case that has captured the attention of the nation. The judgment is for almost $32 million in damages and defendants were required to post a $36 million bond to secure the judgment pending appeal. The appeal phase, as I’ve previously indicated, is the most perilous for the Gibsons. Their case was so strong...

The leader of a conservative group was arrested Friday in Portland, Ore., one day before planned protests involving supporters of the far-left Antifa movement and supporters of several conservative groups. Joey Gibson, leader of Portland-based Patriot Prayer, turned himself in to authorities in connection with an arrest warrant for rioting, stemming from a violent clash in the city on May 1, according to the Associated Press. He was later released after posting bail, with further legal action pending. In a video posted on Facebook, Gibson accused police of targeting conservative groups for arrests but not members of Antifa, even though...
