In much the same way that dinosaurs miniaturized to today’s birds, the ancient Democrat solons and media have devolved from positions of respect and power to starlings, annoyingly chirping and scattering guano from their perches. The easy access to the internet diminished the power of the networks to control the narrative. Indeed, their monopoly is dead, and their audience must largely consist of people too feeble to manage the remote controls and turn them off or too technologically illiterate to view how crooked TV reporting has become. The president understands this and has utilized every means to get his message...

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has announced it will stop publishing the newspaper two days a week. According to a letter sent to the newspaper's employee union Wednesday, the newspaper is shrinking its printing schedule as part of a plan to become a digital news organization. The change will go into effect Aug. 25. Officials have not specified which days will be cut. Senior Human Resources Manager Linda Guest says in the letter, “the nature of our operations will change substantially.” The owners of the 232-year-old paper, Ohio-based Block Communications, have not responded to requests for comment.

OMAHA — The parent company of The Daily Nonpareil and The Omaha World-Herald announced last Monday it eliminated 289 jobs across the country, including 108 vacant positions. BH Media Group, based in Omaha, is reducing costs because of declining advertising and circulation revenue. BH Media is the newspaper division of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. It now employs 4,450 people. Terry Kroeger, president and chief executive, said in a memo to BH Media employees that some of the company’s 31 newspapers are reducing other expenses, including the number of pages they print. None of the job cuts were at The Nonpareil or...

The New York Times has deftly adapted to the demands of digital journalism, but it needs to change even more quickly, according to an internal report that recommends the company expand training for reporters and editors, hire journalists with more varied skills and deepen engagement with readers as a way to build loyalty and attract the subscriptions necessary to survive. The report, released to The Times newsroom on Tuesday, is the culmination of a year of work by a group of seven journalists who were asked by Dean Baquet, the executive editor, to conduct a review of the newsroom and...

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Free Press Publisher Tom Pounds says the paper will be shutting down operations. Pounds says financial troubles are the reason he's closing the paper. “When you can't pay your bills, you don't keep going,” Pounds said Monday. Pounds says about 50 families in total will be impacted by the decision to cease publication. That includes 10 full-time employees, as well as writers, paper carriers, artists and others who worked on the Free Press's weekly issues. Even as he announced the decision to shut down, Pounds said he's proud of what the Free Press...

Extra Extra! Just two years after purchasing the Orange County Register promising to resuscitate print media in America, Chief executive and Chairman, Aaron Kushner, and President, Eric Spitz, handed in their resignation at the paper and parent company Freedom Communications Inc. After a symphony of staff reductions, furloughs, closures of the Los Angeles and Long Beach papers, and at one point actually having the reporters deliver the papers, the decimated company heads to the selling block. Tuesday reporters assembled at the Orange County Register headquarters in Santa Ana awaiting the announcement. Kushner stood mostly silent, according to several employees who...

The Orange County Register is now asking its reporters and other staff members to deliver papers.. Amid continued problems with newspaper deliveries, the paper is offering employees up to $150 in Visa gift cards to deliver hundreds of newspapers on Sundays and Thanksgiving, according to a sign-up form contained in an email to employees Thursday. The effort is part is the Register's "We Care" campaign, launched after a switch in carriers left thousands of papers undelivered. Previously, the Register asked staffers to make customer service calls to those affected. The unusual requests signal that problems persist since the Register switched...
