BEIJING - China’s foreign ministry says the U.S. is “completely wasting the precious time” Beijing had won in attacking the global coronavirus outbreak that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a daily briefing Monday that the U.S. has attempted to “discredit others and look for a scapegoat to shift its responsibilities.” He added that the U.S. should “stop politicizing the epidemic, stop stigmatizing and defaming China and other countries.”

China has slammed Israel’s recent claim that the lethal new Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) originated from the mainland’s leaked biological warfare lab in the city of Wuhan as Chinese researchers are busy making vaccines to contain the epidemic that has affected 16 countries so far. Dany Shoham—a former Israeli military intelligence officer—recently claimed that China had intentionally leaked the new coronavirus from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This is the only institution capable of dealing with such lethal viruses and is closely linked with China’s biological warfare program. “Certain laboratories in the institute have probably been engaged,in terms of research and development,...

The Maine senator was unequivocal in her statements, which came after a firefighters memorial service in Augusta on Saturday morning, joining Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Ben Sasse, R-Nevada, in breaking rank with GOP support for the president. “I thought the president made a big mistake by asking China to get involved in investigating a political opponent,” Collins said. “It’s completely inappropriate.” The president’s comments came days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, announced a formal impeachment probe into his attempt to solicit foreign help in an election, which is illegal and considered by many lawmakers to be a foundational threat...

A Hong Kong legislator and pro-democracy activist went to the U.N.’s top human rights body in Geneva this week to appeal for action in the face of alleged police brutality, only to be reprimanded by the presiding officer. Human Rights Council vice president Carlos Mario Foradori told Tanya Chan that her statement did not fall within the parameters of the agenda item being discussed – “Promotion and protection of all human rights.” In her statement, delivered during a segment of the session devoted to non-governmental organization (NGO) representatives, Chan accused Hong Kong’s Beijing-backed authorities of endorsing “police abuse” against pro-democracy...

Sen. Bernie Sanders hopes to set himself apart from his most formidable 2020 rival on a signature issue: trade. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has led Sanders in early Democratic presidential primary polling since entering the race a week ago, raised eyebrows Wednesday by downplaying the economic threat posed by China. At a campaign stop in Iowa, Biden said: “China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man.”

China’s Civil Aviation Admin. sent a letter to 36 foreign air carriers, including a number of US carriers, demanding changes....The carriers were told to remove references on their websites or in other material that suggest Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are part of countries independent from China, US and airline officials said. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury's top diplomat ramped up his criticisms of China's economic policies on Wednesday, accusing Beijing of "patently non-market behavior" and saying that the United States needed stronger responses to counter it. David Malpass, Treasury undersecretary for international affairs, said at a forum in Washington that China should no longer be "congratulated" by the world for its progress and policies. "They went to Davos a year ago and said 'We're into trade,' when in reality what they’re doing is perpetuating a system that worked for their benefit but ended up costing jobs in most of the...

On Tuesday, China slammed the United States’ deployment of an aircraft carrier to conduct “routine operations” in the South China Sea, calling it a pretense to undermine its sovereignty. “China always respects the freedom of navigation and overflight all littoral countries enjoy under international law,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a daily news briefing, according to Reuters. “But we are consistently opposed to relevant countries threatening and damaging the sovereignty and security of littoral countries under the flag of freedom of navigation and overflight,” Geng said. “We hope relevant countries can do more to safeguard regional peace...

President-elect Donald Trump slammed China on Sunday, criticizing the country on Twitter for taxing U.S. products and for its aggression in the South China Sea. “Did China ask us if it was OK to devalue their currency (making it hard for our companies to compete), heavily tax our products going into…their country (the U.S. doesn't tax them) or to build a massive military complex in the middle of the South China Sea? I don't think so!”

....Despite China's recent announcement that it was "abandoning" its longstanding one-child policy, critics have been quick to note that China is not abandoning anything and that the cosmetic change in policy signals no real change whatsoever in the way the Communist Party will continue to exercise despotic control over family life and reproduction, including through forced abortions and sterilizations. In speaking of the policy on the Senate floor Wednesday, Cruz had a poster-size photo brought out showing a woman with a dead child next to her on a hospital bed."I want to talk to you about Feng Jianmei," Cruz said. Update: CHINA SUMMONS U.S. AMBASSADOR OVER SOUTH CHINA SEA PATROL: CCTVWell, the USS Lassen sailed within 12-nautical miles of Subi Reef and surprisingly, World War III did not break out overnight. (USS Lassen)(Subi reef)Nine months of tension between Washington and Beijing over the latter’s land reclamation efforts in The South China Sea culminated on Monday with President Obama’s decision to send a guided missile destroyer to China’s man-made military outposts on a “freedom of navigation” exercise. As we put it on Monday evening: "The ball is now squarely in China's court. The question now is whether Beijing will back down...
