Something like that.
It was found to have too small a payload as a medium bomber, and unsatisfactory for the role of a bomber.
It was better as a recon bird, and as a night fighter.

If I know anything, it's that Sam and Phil can get better 'hard data' for you about that than I.

Yep. It was the most versatile and best medium bomber in the Luftwaffe. It aws used as a level bomber, dive bomber, recon, night fighter, remote controlled bomb, etc

The 'Mistel' was a combination of an un-manned Ju88 bomber fitted with a huge warhead, coupled to either a Bf109 or Fw190, which guided the bomber to it's target. The last mistel attack of the war is depicted.

The Aircobra and Kingcobra were interesting planes, just underpowered and overarmored.
Though Pukryshkin DID use one or the other for good effect during WWII on the German Russian front.

That's correct. They were best flown at lower altitudes. Not enough power. Now cut it out! *chuckle*

OKay..
Did you see the stuff about the Hawker Sea Fury?
Came out too late for the war, was interesting in so much as some of it's prototypes had contra rotating props, and one at least had a six bladed prop.
Other had merely five bladed props.

Yeah, they loved it for some reason.
Don't rightly recall why.
It was a pretty plane, in an odd way.

I think Johnny Gage covered the Sea Fury in one of his profiles.

Odd is right.

The engine is behind the pilot, with a drive shaft that runs between his legs, to make room for a 37mm cannon in the nose. The Russians used them as tank busters.

Thanks. No I haven't but I'm just starting the thread, takes me a lot longer than it does Sam to pull one of these together. I'm such a slacker. *grin*
