Let's Remember our Wounded, ill and Injured Veterans on May 1st
2014 Silver Star Service Banner Day In honor of the Silver Star Families of America, I join each of you in remembering and showing tribute to our wounded and ill Service men and women, and their families.
Across our Nation, events such as the 2014 Silver Star Service Banner Day offer a time to pause and to reflect upon family and community that includes the sacrifices of the millions who have stood and are currently standing in defense of our Country.
There is no substitute for the privilege of serving our Country. Our dedicated Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen are true professionals because they inherited a proud legacy of service, dedication, and loyalty. Our returning warriors, America's veterans, are best served by the attention to detail, care, and professionalism of a grateful Nation.
By keeping America's veterans in our hearts, we assure the men and women serving today that we are also appreciative of their sacrifices.
On behalf of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States, I join the Silver Star Families of America in support of our Nation's wounded warriors, veterans, their families, and for those currently serving in the Armed Forces who defend peace and stability around the globe.

Thanks but there are so many guys & gals who gave much more. These ‘leaders’ just piss me off and they’re gonna get many Americans killed.
Agreed. ROE’s, and all their other crap brings back bad memories.
My daughter is thinking about joining the National Guard. If she does, she will be subject to call up and deployment just like any other NG unit. Some of the NG units locally have seen several tours already (SF units). Though to be clear, my daughter will not be joining those units.
So I have a protocol question about the blue star service flag. Since she will / may be in the service during a time of armed conflict and since she will be subject to the same call up if her unit is called, will it be appropriate for me to display the blue star service flag? I believe so, but I’m looking to hear from others.
If she does join, I’m thinking of displaying it so that when she comes back from basic, she will see it hanging in the front window as a welcome home.

I believe you are correct but of course contacting the Blue Star Moms would be appropriate. What I understand is that if you are serving in time of conflict you may display the Blue Star Service Banner.
The rules for Service Banners are far more complicated than one would believe.
That is one reason the Silver Star Families, were named “families” and not just mothers.
Any one may display a Silver Star Flag at anytime to honor wounded, ill and injured.
A Silver Star Service Banner may be displayed by any family member anytime.
