I would like to have one but would much rather have an H-Bar with the 1:7 twist.
The longer barrel matters.
Was the first rifle I ever fired. Hooah.
LOL, Colt’s getting desperate and hoping Colt fanboys will buy this overpriced ‘collectible edition’ version of the AR-15 after spending the last 25 years pissing all over the civilian market. FUCM.
***Price: $2,499***
WHA-A-A-T! I bought my first in 1970 at Looboyles, in Tulsa Oklahoma! $200.00!
And like an idiot I sold it a few years later. But then, no one wanted a plastic mouse gun! Even the gun magazines derided the aR-15 as inaccurate!
Then Mel Tappan wrote his book on SURVIVAL GUNS and began a series of survival articles in GUNS AND AMMO magazine. The desire for a .223 took off like a rocket!
Will it still have the logo for the manufacturer of the tail stock on it? How many here know what it is?
Many years ago my isolated garage apartment was broken into while I was at work. They took my Colt SP1 along with several other firearms. I ordered it brand new thru a local gun dealer in 1984 for $459. I sure miss that rifle...
I’m not a collector so I won’t spend that kind of money for nostalgia.
Meh.
I prefer the HK G3 even with the added weight.
I’d love to have one and relive my 1/2 of one day at the rifle range during Air Force basic training back in 1977.
But not at $2,499.
All those Walmart AR’s out there for $500 once again, and Colt’s offers an `original’ for $2,500?
Good luck to that, prong flash hider & all.
Never liked it in Vietnam (Huey driver here, we carried anything), much and still do prefer the AK-47, which at least was made from blue steel & wood, not aluminum & plastic.
I'll continue doing that until the asinine Assault Weapons law is repealed.
Hopefully that can occur with a new Future Republican majority, but i’m not holding my breath.
*I want one! O the memories!!!!
I carried one of these for the majority of my four years (68-72) in the USAF working as a Security Policeman. Same as pictured, flash suppressor and all except we had early models without forward assist feature and were trained to load 18 rounds only in the mags to prevent jamming although they finally realized it was a gunpowder problem, not magazines. Got promoted to the armory while in Korea where I had access to all weapons whenever I wanted and succeeded in making the barrel of one of the rifles on the end of the rack look like a shotgun by the time I left. Loved shooting full auto! I always shot expert marksman but we never shot over 200 yards. Our SAT (Security Alert Team) had M-16’s with XM-148 grenade launchers and M-60 machine gun, extra barrel with asbestos gloves and 7.62 ammo in case something came up. I built an M-4 last year to deal with potential civil disturbances.
Will this one build up carbon and dirt quickly and jam like the original? Will the .223 round bounce off a padded coat at distance? I never liked that weapon, and as to field stripping and cleaning an ak takes about a minute in capable hands.
With loaded AR’s built on great lowers running $600-$800 these days, NOT EVEN A TINY CHANCE I’M SPENDING $2500!!!
