DRAFT RON PAUL FOR US SENATE! W/ Gramm not running, Draft Ron Paul Committee is in full gear!

Attention all freepers: Today's announcement by Senator Gramm of Texas that he will not seek reelection is in itself unfortunate, as Senator Gramm is a dedicated conservative Republican. Gramm's retirement does, however, present us with a great opportunity in Texas to draft Congressman Ron Paul for Senate.

There has been much talk in recent weeks about Congressman Paul as a possible candidate, and a "Draft Ron Paul" effort is underway. Anybody familiar with Congressman Paul will admit that there is no greater ally for proponents of limited and constitutional government in the entire US Congress than Rep. Paul.

Ron is a dedicated and principled constitutionalist who votes on issues rather than personal gain, as is often the case with many congressmen - even those who purport to be Republicans. Ron can always be counted on to vote the CONSTITUTIONAL way on practically every issue - even when the vote falls 434 to 1.

Ron is a true conservative constitutionalist who is one of the leaders in the growing movement to return America to its constitutional roots as envisioned by our nation's founders. As a congressman, he led the Texas delegation behind Reagan at a time when the GOP's liberal elements appeared to call the shots and wanted a moderate candidate for President.

It is for these reasons why we should draft Ron Paul to run for Senator from Texas to fill the Gramm vacancy. Please go to the Draft Ron Paul committee's website and print out sign the petition to draft Congressman Paul for Senator. DraftRonPaul.com has been collecting petitions which will be delivered to Congressman Paul's office to demonstrate the grassroots support behind him if he chooses to run for Senate. They will also be given to the Republican Party of Texas to let the GOP leadership know that the voters want a true conservative constitutionalist for their next senator.

Go to DraftRonPaul.com, print out and mail your petition today!

Freeper help is needed on this one - we need to show Congressman Paul that the support is out there for him to make a Senate bid, and also to show the GOP leadership that true conservatives vote with the Constitution. Sign the petition and mail it today!

Sorry, I disagree. If you have to draft someone to run for an office, they obviously don't want the office.

I sure would hate to have him give up his House seat for a very uphill battle to win this Senate seat.

I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul.

I think at best he is a wide eyed idealist living in fantasy land.

I too would hate to see that. In Paul's last statewide bid back in 1984, he didn't even get into double digits in the GOP primary.

Hi GOPcapitalist. As much as I love Ron Paul, he doesn't stand a chance of winning. We would just divide the Republicans and give the election to Danny Morales. Ugh, the thought of him running makes me sick. I believe we need to put a Latino in there, this time.

It's not that the man doesn't want the job. He doesn't want to fight a bloody battle with the GOP establishment. If there is enough grass roots support he will run in my opinion. And in my opinion he is the only one who desserves it. Get the GOP on board folks and he can take this state.

Delay & Armey? They won't win in the state. We desperately need a good Mexican, Hispanic, Latino to run. The democrats are loading up their candidates with Latino names. This is a big year for us to counteract.

This is an opportunity to fight like we never have before. Here is a chance to get a great man to a greater office where his 1 vote will have more of an impact. At least if Ron Paul gets into the race, he'll give Texans something to see that they have not seen in any other statewide candidate yet.

Ron Paul barely won his House Seat in 2000.

Ron Paul is a good man, but, as a Libertarian Party presidential candidate, did very poorly in Texas.

He'd have a very tough time even winning the primary, since the "establishment" money will most likely go to Henry Bonilla.

Don't be so sure on that. Ron Paul is not the average politician - he isn't in some sort of perpetual quest for more power. He goes where there is a call for him to go. They had to convince him to run for congress in '96. Once he was convinced, he ran full force and won. The same thing could easily replay here with Senate, we just have to convince him that we want him to run.

In TX you can appear twice on the ballot (and have Gov. Perry appoint a replacement for the House if Paul wins).

Just got my Michael Barone Almanac of American Politics 2002 Edition from Amazon 3 days ago, but don't have it here with me at work. What's Bonilla's record? Is he at least in the 70-80% range with the ACU and NTU? And I assume he is Hispanic?

I can't bear the thought of another Dem senator from a Red State, so the Republicans better put forth a very strong candidate.

On Ron's house seat, there are still many variables. There's an unfortunate possibility that he'll get hurt in redistricting. The dems have it in for him, as do some of the RINO powers that be. If he winds up in an unwinnable district, he'll almost have to run for senate.

Or still, we could draft him but it takes getting a lot of people behind him quickly. Ron's fought uphill in every campaign he's ever done, and he's won every time.

It's because people underestimate him and try to defeat him with big money. He clobbers them in the ground war every time and that wins it. If he can beat a RINO convert who was a democrat only a few months earlier like he did in 1996, when his RINO opponent in the primary had the personal support, financial backing, and campaign assistance of Newt Gingrich himself, a senate race should be a piece of cake.
