This "lone ranger" put on a one-woman FREEP of Nancy Pelosi's office, by standing at 450 Golden Gate Avenue (the SF Federal Building) for about 1-1/2 hours today. I had been advised to call Fox News (or any channel) to seek coverage, so I did call Fox. Before sending a reporter out, Fox News checked my claim that this was a nationwide FREEP, with larger demonstrations in Washington, D.C. and Modesto. The Fox staffers then alerted their newsbureaus in D.C. and Modesto, but claimed no one had heard of the planned demonstrations of Freepers there!
I had a suspicion that it was a slow news day. One of my favorite reporterettes, Rita (I've blanked on her last name) and a camerman came out to the federal building, watched me from afar and then filmed and interviewed me. I had created day-glo signs in orange ("STOP: INTERN ABUSE; STOP: BAD TOUPEE DAYS; WWW.FREEREPUBLIC.COM") and pink ("NANCY PELOSI: IF YOU WANNA BE WHIP, TELL CONDID-IT TO BEAT IT!"). I also had some other wonderful ones in case some other Freeper came by or I could press anyone else into service. That never happened. It was so windy at my bleak post that I had my hands full just holding up two signs.
The front of the federal building used to be a beautiful staircase. After the earthquake, that all changed and now it is an ugly bunker arrangement which discourages foot traffic. I chose the best site I could. I think federal employees are eating at their desks these days: very little foot traffic. I got a few smiles and an occasional thumbs up, but this is hostile (hazardous duty?) territory.
Rita asked me if I were lonely! She said that FreeRepublic was a "conservative" site and since Condit was a conservative, why did I wish to see him resign?I told her that conduct trumped party affiliation or political stripe and that Condit should resign. (however, I wish I had said it just that way....the words I chose were far less elegant). She wanted to know if I were a Republican and I declined to answer, saying only that I was a "patriot". I also refused to give anything other than my nom de plume on the grounds of the political hostility in San Francisco.
It was important to me to do this for the Modesto chapter and for Jim Robinson. Rita could tell that I was a novice at this! She wanted to know why THIS issue above all others brought me out. I tried to tell her that there were many issues which could have brought me out, but I had the time on this one.
Check Channel 2 Fox in the San Francisco Bay Area tonight...maybe they will cover it.

It's tough to be the "Lone Protester" and it takes a tremendous amount of courage to go it alone -- especially in hostile territory. Kudos to you and thanks for adding SF to the cities where Gary Condit's conduct was brought to the attention of Congressmen (and women) and constituents.
Your next protest will be a snap and you might even have fun doing it. FReep On!

Great Job SFmom!!! We are so proud of you and grateful for your courage for your "one-mom stand." Your one voice alone was much louder than the 435 voices in the House of Representatives.
Once again, GREAT JOB, great signs, and Thank you.

I did manage to say to Rita that Condit wasn't all that conservative. We had an interesting little discussion when I asked her what SHE thought had happened to Shaundra. She said she was not allowed to comment! Then she volunteered that she had worked in DC for about (?)8 years and that it was "So much worse then". I said, "How could it BE any worse?" and I guess by her standards there is less pawing of women and more women rising in the ranks. Still, I said, "How many interns were murdered then?" And she just shrugged, as if to say "Oh, well!"

How do these go, SFmom? ... It only takes a spark, to get a fire glowing ... or, ... this little light of mine ...
I'm extraordinarily proud of you, SFmom ... you may have been lonely, but you were not alone.

I remember your solo FREEP...I couldn't make it and I felt bad then...I could have used you today! I posted the information for two to three days, but you probably didn't see it. Next time we need to coordinate.
