Beware of your opinions. They could be hazardous to your life.
That's not from 1984, or a warning to the citizens of a tyrannical country. It's more like a word of caution to any journalist who might consider commenting on a black American.
Witness what is happening to Rod Dreher, a columnist for the New York Post and an occasional contributor to National Review Online. Last week, the spectacle outside a New York City church for the funeral of R&B singer Aaliyah was Princess Di-like, to say the least.
There was a horse-drawn carriage, a release of doves, and a throng of teenagers bawling away. Dreher said in print what most of New York has been saying on the streets: Who was she, anyway?
Maybe you know who she was. And, of course, as Dreher wrote, her death was a tragedy. But the trappings of her funeral seemed out of proportion. In a newspaper column in the city where all this happened, Dreher made this point. And now, he's a "racist" and one who fears for his life.
Dreher's column appeared on August 31. Over the Labor Day weekend, Al Sharpton held a press conference condemning Dreher for criticizing the scene around Aaliyah's funeral. The Reverend categorized the column as "abysmal, shocking and racist." He asked, "What do you mean horse carriages shouldn't be used, doves shouldn't fly?" And he concluded, "What you really mean is you should have a nice little Negro funeral."
In the New York Post's own news story on the press conference, Sharpton is quoted as saying, "We will bring down anybody who tells us how to mourn our own."
"We will bring down anybody . . ." These are not words to be taken lightly. They come from a man with presidential aspirations, and a master demagogue. Sharpton's was a potent volley in a new war against a respected writer who was caught telling it like it is.
A good reporter, Rod Dreher, has been Rusdied by the Ahyotollah (sp?) of NYC -
Eagles Up!!
I did a search, and I could not find it reported here.
Rod is a good man who finds himself in a shitty situation for exercising 1st amendment rights.
He is stirring up the DNC moron base and will go away after he get what he wants from The DNC.
Sharpton and Dreher.
Of your kindness, might you post the links to those other three threads, since I have been pretty busy, and Rod is a friend?
Plus, everything you wanted to know about Al but didn't have the barf bag available to ask
Yes - four threads, and no one seems to give a damn about intimidation of a good reporter telling the truth.
It's not about Al Sharpton -
It's about the first amendment.
Can't Sharpton be charged with a crime off his public statements?
Just joke off Al Sharpton????
Maybe I am in the wrong place.
Sad but true. The bottom line is that AL will pull out the racist card whenever he feels like it no matter what the facts may be and the media is at best just scared of the lieing race baiting whore, or just like to enable him so they can sell newpapers. Maybe both.
More please.
I looked at four so-called threads on an NY Post reported who was mau-mauded by Sharpton and all FR says
\ Someone needs to explain to me why an intimidation of a reporter elicts about 40 posts when Condit gets 40k.
someone tell me why this is no big deal.
A fine NYC reporter is threatened. Sure, he make light of it - But, that is for public consumptiom. He has a family, and lives in the City.
Where are the Eagles for Rod - over at lucianne??
Read that report last week; and wondered what journalistic path would now be followed. . .
About a year ago, (or so. . .and think it may have been Sean Hannity showing this. . .(?)) a clip was shown of Al Sharpton, in the pulpit, of a local New York Church; not doing the 'work of the Lord' but rather the work of a race/hate monger .
The racist rhetoric he literally spewed forth, was incredible. Now that Sharpton is entertaining higher political aspirations; thought this might be used to show Al doing his spiritual 'work' so there could be no doubt in the 'minds of the many', as to just what he is about. . .this representative of the Democrat Party. . .
This article re Sharpton's response, made this seem more unlikely. . .but I hope that is not the case; but not hard to imagine how ugly this can get.
Think Bush should make Sharpton an Ambassador to Rwanda or Zimbabwe. . .and then, do the same for Jesse. . .
Think maybe it could be just the opposite - with people reluctant to make it even more of a big deal by bringing it up.
This was 'kind' of my thought when I read this. . .maybe better not to post this and have it become a bigger deal; and then there is the 'on the other hand. . .'
. . .and of course, infamy wins, when the truth is ignored or supressed, even by good intentions.
Sharpton should be called to account for his words and his deeds. . .
Well, I really care not a damn for Demoncrap or Republocrat party, at this point.
What is worriesome is the trampling of the first mendment and the ho-hum attitude here.
Huh?
Sounds like the old ostrich - bury my head in the sand?
Or do I miss your point?
At this time, I just about done with FR,
To me, this is about a million times more important than a stupid DC intern and a sleavy CA Congressman,<p<
Sharptoon, on the other hand, is a rabble-rousing lying a$$wipe who profanes the faith he pretends to hold. He is a charlatan, a con-man and a thief.
