Thread II - URGENT: D.C. Chapter Needs You for Operation Infinite FReep 9/29/01
Kristinn - Self | 26 Sept. 2001 | Kristinn, Angelwood, Dave

Posted on 09/26/2001 4:12:18 AM PDT by VaMarVet

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday, September 29, in Washington, D.C. for Operation Infinite Freep.

Our purpose will be to show support for our troops, President Bush, the families and victims of the recent terrorist attacks, and the United States.

We will do this by acting as a counter to the so-called peacenik (in reality, anti-American) rally and march scheduled for that day in D.C.

We will do so peacefully and lawfully, if you do not think you can control yourself in this trying time, please stay home. The leftist yahoos would love nothing better than to have images in the news of fights and skirmishes so they could portray themselves as pious victims even as they provoke hostilities.

The D.C. Chapter has a long and distinguished record of peaceful, law-abiding--but passionate--protesting and we will not allow it to be tarnished. Anyone on our side who cannot abide by the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will not be allowed to stand with us.

The rules are simple: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations and no lawbreaking. All law enforcement officers must be treated with respect. Do not disrupt traffic in the streets or impede pedestrians on sidewalks or at crosswalks.

There will be plenty of LEOs on the scene because of the well-earned reputation of the leftists for disorderly conduct and potential for violence, so if any of them tries to assault you get a cop right away rather than duke it out with them. Like in sports where the referees never see the first punch but they always see the second one, so it is at protests. Be careful and keep your composure--do not be provoked. Most of us have experience and know how to handle ourselves in these situations. However, if you bring friends or family members, or pass this along to other groups, it is imperative they know what is expected of them. We can not afford to embarrass President Bush at this critical time by the antics of a few hotheads. We were able to have a successful month-long freep at the the Vice President's residence last fall--the Get Out of Cheney's House protests seen around the world--by maintaining these standards of civil behavior.

For now, we are keeping the details of the D.C. Chapter's first action in Operation Infinite Freep under wraps so as to not tip off the leftist yahoos. We sought but were denied a permit for a large rally on the 29th for security reasons. Therefore, we will be using freeper ingenuity in order to act within the law for this action. Law enforcement has enough to worry about right now and we do not wish to add to their troubles.

Where: Downtown Washington, D.C. Specifics will be sent via FReepmail first and announced later in the week. Please refer those you notify to this thread.

When: Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. (at the latest).

Signs/costumes: Large signs with large, thick letters and the Free Republic URL on the bottom of each sign. Rather than have 'love it or leave it' type signs, have messages and photos/graphics supporting our troops, President Bush, the families and victims of the terrorist attacks and America. Costumes should be in good taste.

Sustenance: Snacks, sandwiches, water or sodas (no alcohol!)to last the day. Try to travel light, however, as we may have to move.

Flags/ ribbons: Please bring American flags, large and small, and others like the Gadsden flag. Please bring red, white and blue ribbons to wear.

Bring video cameras or still cameras to document our activities.

It is most likely we will not be allowed to use bullhorns.

Use sunscreen and/or hats if it is sunny.

Contact: Kristinn or Angelwood via FReepmail or e-mail. Please include your e-mail address with your FReepmail message in case the server crashes this week :-)

UPDATE ON PERMITS FOR SEPT. 29 MASS MARCH IN WASHINGTON D.C.

- ALL PERMITS OBTAINED FOR SEPT. 29 MARCH & RALLY
*ASSEMBLY LOCATION CHANGED*

The national march on September 29 in Washington DC in opposition to war and racism will assemble for a rally at *Freedom Plaza - 14th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW*. The rally will be followed by a march to the Justice Department, the Navy Memorial (both located on Pennsylvania Avenue) and conclude with a rally in Upper Senate Park across from the Capitol building.

The change in the assembly site from Lafayette Park in front of the White House to Freedom Plaza at 14th and Pennsylvania prevents an eleventh-hour effort by the Bush administration to disrupt the demonstration. The Bush administration used the Secret Service to announce a ban on demonstrators using Lafayette Park for peace and anti-war protests during the next thirty days. The International A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) obtained all of the necessary permits last Wednesday for a rally at Lafayette Park and on the sidewalk in front of the White House, which would be followed by a march down Pennsylvania Ave. and concluding at the Capitol.

The Secret Service and the National Parks Service notified I-A.N.S.W.E.R. late today, Tuesday, September 25, that they were revoking the permits in Lafayette Park and the Ellipse. The Secret Service is unconstitutionally using the pretext of security for political purposes, just as Richard Nixon tried to use the Secret Service to bar demonstrations in front of the White House during the Vietnam War.

One of our main messages to anti-war activists right now is this: Our mass anti-war mobilization on the 29th in the DC has not been stopped. Thousands of people will take Freedom Plaza on Sept. 29th, and this will allow the mass organizing for Sept. 29 to go on unimpeded and without uncertainty in these last critical days before the demonstration.

The Sept. 29 march and rally has gained great support from across the country. Thousands of people are coming from as far away as California, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Maine and everywhere in between, including thousands from New York City.

As an endnote, the ban on demonstrations by Secret Service is for a 30-day period and the language of the banning order would allow the Secret Service unfettered discretion in renewing the ban on demonstrations for months and years to come. The I-A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition will carry out a legal challenge in the near future to the Secret-Service-imposed ban on demonstrations at Lafayette Park and the White House sidewalk.

the White House sidewalk.

These ' activists' can't even be accurate to their own base. I guess lying doesn't ever count. Maybe it is the mean old Secret Service fault.

I hope to come but transportation is iffy.

The national march on September 29 in Washington DC in opposition to war and racism...

Just be careful you folks don't get caught in any pictures implying you support racism! :) Just kidding, of course.

"opposition to war and racism"

HUH?? What the heck is that supposed to mean? I suppose it doesn't mean that these people are planning to protest Osama bin Laden's prejudice AGAINST NON-MUSLIMS, or to protest the fact that HE started a war on US, not the other way around.

That's why we have Freepers. I wish I lived a little closer to Washington D.C.

I wish I could drive up there from Florida. Hell, I wish I could drive. I just want to see one sign:

Remember the Dead

I know the protesters have no remorse, but if we could shame the media in every way possible, it will help to shut up these slimey Ramsey Clark socialists and their ilk.

I have a commitment Saturday but will try to get out of it. Have not Freeped before but if there ever is a time for it, this is it! Please Freepmail me with details. If I cannot come, please let me know how I can contribute. I can make signs tonight and tomorrow and deliver them to someone's office or home.

I would also like to to see if someone can contact the J.W. Marriott hotel, which is right at Freedom Plaza, and ask them to please put up the biggest damn American flag in the country on the side of their building. Also perhaps we can rent a room or two there and hang some signs out the windows. I would be willing to chip in for this.

I hope someone will have the "No Tear Gas Necessary, We're Conservatives" sign!

Argh! These cretins really believe this crap! The utter nerve! I cannot stand these Anti-American commies! it is hard to believe they were in the same city as I was on 9/11/01! They are cold to the bone!

Best of luck with Operation Infinite FReep!
