Question. Is this war comparable to Protestants vs. Catholics?
none

I am a new at this, and I just want to ask a question to see what you guys think....
I heard from one of my professors that he thought this war could last thousands of years and he referenced England, and the Protestants vs. the Catholics. Do you feel this is the same thing?
Because I completely disagree.

It's Marshal Dillon vs Black Bart. We do not make religious ideological claims to justify our actions. We are simple defending our right to exist.

If he meant the Troubles in Ireland, it could be.

I think the administration touts it more as like Protestants and most of the Catholics vs Jesuits ...it will probably turn out more like your analogy in the long run (but 10 years is more like it) ;)
To: Coog
Perhaps in the blind doctrinal hatred sense.
In that case, perhaps it has been going on for hundreds of years already?
To: Coog
No, personally I do not agree with your professor.
Protestants and Catholics are of the same basic religion; that is, they both are based upon the Bible.
The Muslims do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
I do believe that this war could last a long time, but also believe that if God desires, He could make this the last world war before His return, but it will be when He is ready and no one else will know.
Followers of Christ(Christians), what is your opinion?

If he meant the Troubles in Ireland, it could be.If the Brits would just go back to their own little island, there'd be no "Troubles".
To: Coog
Let us all pray it is not. The protestant reformation and the ensusing wars in central europe lasted many many decades and wrought such havoc and destruction upon the Holy Roman Empire that it really didn't begin to recover for several centuries.

Try satan worshippers against the rest of humanity.

Don't forget, the Christian internecine warfare ended several hundred years ago. A dead issue.

I don't see how this could be any at all like a religious war. We are not a Christian nation. Granted, many of our laws are based on Christian principles, but we are not all Christians.

I heard from one of my professors that he thought this war could last thousands of years and he referenced England, and the Protestants vs. the Catholics. Your professor needs a history lesson.
First, Protestants haven't even been around for one thousand years. They only go back about 500 years.
Second, Protestants and Catholics haven't been waging a war. If they did, the Catholics would win in a New York minute. :-)
Finally, if one considers the current war to be one between Christians and Muslims, it has been going on for over a thousand years already in one form or another.
Some advice: if this professor is anything other than a wood shop instructor, find a new school.

Hey Coog-
I'll tell you what I told both of my sons before they went off to college.
Don't ever believe ANY professor on ANY discussion of religion or politics.
And I think your question may cover both. Beware and always get alternative opinions..

If I understand the situation correctly, the trouble in Northern Ireland is caused by descendents of the old-time ancient residents being angry because England invaded Northern Ireland at a time when England was Protestant. So, the modern Northern Ireland Protestants represent British colonialism while the old-time Catholics represent the founders of the country. Its the liberal media and atheist university professors that make that war seem like a religious war.

Why do you disagree with his statement?
It would seem that, to the extent that both sides claim to have God on their side, the comparison might not be too far off base.

I've been to Ireland several times, and to Northern Ireland once, about four years ago. It is my observation that the conflict in Northern Ireland is not exactly between Catholics and Protestants.
The six northern counties in Ireland are part of England, and the majority of the population is Protestant. It used to be about 75-25 protestant, although it's about 51-49 today. One day soon, the majority in Northern Ireland will be Catholic.
The Catholic population wants very much to be free of English control and be part of Ireland. The Protestant population wants to stay aligned with England.
In Ireland proper, you have Catholic and Protestant churches side by side, and the people from each get along, pretty much the same as the folks in the U.S. do.
IMHO, the fight in Northern Ireland is more about independence from England, and not about Catholic ver. Protestant. It just so happens that the two religions are aligned politically, English and Irish.

"We are not a Christian nation."
Yes we are, the non Christian component is a very small minorty. That's like saying Saudi Araiba isn't a musulem nation because there are some Christians there.

your question:
Question. Is this war comparable to Protestants vs. Catholics? Answer:
No. Roman Catholics are like most main stream protestant denominations, members of the church of Laodiceea. But, muslims are part of what is called by the Lord, the synogogue of satan. Revelation chapter 3

Wars of religion are understood as such only by those who cannot fathom the underlying political conflict.
