Pacifists are Cowards
10/10/2001 | Jason Moir

Ever since the United States was brutally attacked on September 11th every political pundit, analyst and commentator has referred to these attacks as acts of war. Even the news coverage following September 11th has a warlike tone to it. Captions such as "America Under Attack", "America Strikes Back" have graced our television screens 24 hours a day for the last month. Now that the US has launched air strikes against the Taliban and their terrorist network, we are engaging in war. And with every war (or the possibility of war) there is one thing you can count on…war protesters.

These war protesters, or pacifists as some like to be called, have been slowly building momentum since the attacks first occurred on September 11th. They vehemently oppose any military action against the persons and/or countries responsible for the planning or the execution of the attacks. Anti war protests have been popping up all over the country on college campuses, various federal buildings and even the White House. Almost daily you can see video footage of anti war activists holding their signs covered with all too familiar and worn out phrases.

The phrases these activists use have been repeated incessantly since September 11th. It is the same language that has been used by people in opposition to any US military action in the past. Phrases such as "Hate Begets Hate", "Stop the Violence", and "An Eye for an Eye Makes the World Blind" are the rallying cry for these activists. People such as this want America to simply turn the other cheek and forget the horror of September 11th. These people are nothing more than cowards.

Cowards are people who would rather hide from their fears rather than face them. By not wanting to seek justice for the thousands of innocent people killed in the terrorist attacks, they are doing exactly that. Cowards would rather ignore the dangers that exist to every American citizen because it may make them uncomfortable. Cowards live their lives with perpetual blinders on, hoping to avoid any possible form of conflict. It is much easier to run away from a conflict than to confront it. But burying your head in the sands of cowardice will not make the terrorists go away. It will only lead to more American deaths.

I have one request for those people who are opposed to US military action against the Taliban. Go talk to the families of the 6,000 plus victims. Talk to a member of the New York Fire Department and ask about his coworkers who died in the World Trade Center. Talk to a father who lost his son who worked at the Pentagon. Talk to a wife who lost her husband in Pennsylvania. If that conversation doesn't make you want to find the terrorists yourself, not only are you a coward but you are also a poor excuse for an American.

Call them whatever you like…anti war activists, pacifists, etc. The only label that describes them is that of coward. In my opinion the actions of these activists border on treason. Personally I would like to see them sent to the front lines of battle in Afghanistan. Then ask them how effective their "Stop the Violence" signs really are.

To: JayGOP, What Patrick Henry had to say about Pacifists!
Thanks for posting this! Here is what Patrick Henry had to say about cowards 226 years ago. His observation is still valid!

"Pacifists are among the most immoral of men. They make no distinction between aggression and defense. Therefore, pacifism is one of the greatest allies an aggressor can have!" by Patrick Henry"

These people are nothing more than cowards.

so the people who take an unpopular opinion are the cowards? how much more/less cowardice would it take to carry a "nuke'em" or even a "let justice be served" sign? apparently this would "cure" their cowardice. how easy it is to be brave these days.

If you don't like the word " coward ", might I suggest the following ... stupid, brainwashed, braindead, moronic , cretinous, and poltroon ? Perhaps you would preferr several words strung together, as in : incapable of understanding that a nation / people must be inculcated in Western civilization and morality, in order for Gandian passive resistence to work . Or how about : so massively ill educated that they believe whatever codswallop is fed them by raving blame America for everthing that has ever been and is wrong with the world ? You want is simpler ? Okay : lefty, nihilistic Marxists too stupid to realize just what could happen to THEM, if we continued to do nothing.

Yes, there are certain religions ( Quakers , Menonites, and others ) who have had a long history of being pacifists. That didn't preclude them from doing such things as drivng ambulances , etc. in both world wars.

They are cowards.

A family relative related to me that her husband had a plan in place to go to Canada during the Vietnam war if called.

No surprise to me. The guy always seemed like a complete wimp to me. Now I really have no respect for the guy.

My ex was the same way. I always knew, deep down, in spite of the fact that he was 6'4", muscular, he too, was a wimp. He would have left me in a dark alley to fight off attackers.

My husband now, although smaller than my first husband, has no qualms about confronting a situation. I have no doubt what so ever about him defending me and the family.

No, pacifists are peace welfare benefiters who believe that you do not have to fight to have peace, which is a lie, because there always will be thugs shielding themselves with babies to carry out their attrocities... one of which is the peace nicks who shield their innocent bodies with a vile rhetoric full of animosity.

War protesters are pro-terrorists!!!!
Our troops fight for peace. Pro-terrorists can protest because someone else has fought and died to give them that FReedom. They are too cowardly to fight for freedom but they will gladly take the freedoms guaranteed by fighting men and women.

Not all pacifists are cowards. Some actually serve in the military -- but do so in jobs that do not require them to bear arms. Seventh Day Adventists are, as a rule, pacifists -- but at least one SDA earned the MOH as a medic in the Second World War.

I believe your rule of thumb should be: pacifists are cowards if they refuse to don the uniform even if called upon by their nation. Otherwise, pacifists are simply people sticking by their beliefs.

Two things. Remember Sgt. Alvin York was a pacifist when drafted. And, how many of y'all lobbing the epithet "coward" are in uniform yourselves? You don't have to be on active duty, either. I'm a Naval Reservist (I had nine years of active service before joining the Reserves), and as a guy actually serving his country by putting his tail-end on the line I have no problems with pacifists. It has been my experience that those most quick to call others "cowards" or "shirkers" are those in no danger of life or limb themselves.

Pacifists are PARASITES on a society. They derive sustenance and support but give nothing in return.

good. we're moving beyond coward, which was the point of the article. as for the rest:

Okay : lefty, nihilistic Marxists too stupid to realize just what could happen to THEM, if we continued to do nothing.

You should read the denunciation of the attacks on the World Socialist Website. pretty interesting. The main line of their critique is: these terrorists act similarly to washington imperialists -- they have a problem with a foreign power, and attack the workers/innocents of that power. rather than the ones responsible, its overwhelmingly the "grunts" that pay, be they office workers or starving afghani refugees. They're very clear in their denunciations, and quite consistent too.

"so the people who take an unpopular opinion are the cowards?"

No, some times they're also traitors. Former liberal and Vietnam War protest organizer David Horowitz was approached by the KGB in the '60's. He told them to take a hike, but says that most protest leaders at the time were avowed Marxists that worked with the backing of foreign governments. I expect Bill Clinton would be a good example of this.
