Al Qaida's bio-warfare facility hit
PTI
(New Delhi, October 11)

A production facility for poisonous chemicals and biological warfare agents, belonging to Osama bin Laden's Al Qaida outfit is among a large number of targets hit by the US-led strikes in Afghanistan, an Israeli newspaper reported on Thursday. "Apparently, one of bin Laden bases which manufactured various poisons, including biological weapons was hit in the air strikes" the daily, Ha'aretz reported.

Quoting western sources, it said that though the US administration was "extremely careful" in disclosing the targets hit by American and British warplanes, the US intelligence held "detailed information on the location of Al Qaida organisation camps".

Stating that one of the bases attacked was "a chief manufacturer of explosive materials", the paper said the US and British bombers had also targeted "instructional and training bases near the cities of Jalalabad and Khut, located close to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border".

"Professional bases as well as Al Qaida manufacturing centres, including intelligence bases near Kandahar and Kabul have also been hit," it said, adding that "according to Western claims, Al Qaida members were trained to carry out attacks and hijackings at these bases".

....., an Israeli newspaper reported on Thursday

Any other confirmation of this?
It's a bit third-hand for my taste.
Good news if true - maybe some anthrax was scattered...

I hope we used highly incinerating weapons on such sites. Otherwise, I have to wonder if we just managed to anthrax and smallpox the Afghan countryside for hundreds of miles around... to come back to bite us later when we go in there.

Nah... you can bet anything of any value was moved deep into a cave somewhere. But at least the structure was, one would think, destroyed.

Thanks. I've been looking for this follow-up. Taliban targets may be exhausted, now the real game is joined.

Interesting Thoughts

After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1,000 President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those would be hunted down and punished.

After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000.... Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S.sailors, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.

Maybe if Clinton had kept his promise, an estimated 7,000 people would be alive today.

An interesting question: This question was raised on a Philly radio call-in show. Without casting stones, it is a legitimate question.

There are two men, both extremely wealthy. One develops relatively cheap software and gives hundreds of millions of dollars to charity.

The other sponsors terrorism.

That being the case, why is it that the US government has spent more money chasing down Bill Gates over the past ten years than Osama bin Laden?

It is a strange turn of events. Hillary gets $8 Million for her forthcoming memoir.

Bill gets about $12 Million for his memoir.

This from two people who have spent the past 8 years being unable to recall anything about past events!.........Incredible!!

Reports suggest the target was destroyed with a 5,000 lb. "bunker buster" which would penetrate at least three stories down. Assumming some explosives were stored underground, we could expect the destruction to be total.
