Bin Laden's Nuclear Weapons?
London's "Eye Spy" reports on a secret operation at least 18 months ago whereby Al-Qaeda operatives acquired nuclear technology and hardware.
According to the Arabic language newspaper Al-Watan al-Arabi, well-organized terrorists smuggled nuclear warheads, bought with opium and cash from the Russian mafia, overland out of Russian territory via secret routes through Uzbekistan.
There, former Soviet scientists removed the active uranium to be processed and placed it in backpack-sized nuclear bombs ready for transportation to the West, undetected.
Sources say bin Laden has used two tons of Afghan opium and $30 million to buy over 20 nuclear warheads.
He has hired an international team of rogue nuclear scientists working in a secret underground base to convert warheads 'expropriated' from former Soviet republics into portable nuclear devices capable of striking targets around the globe.
The newspaper further states that bin Laden developed ties with the mafia of former Soviet republics during the Afghan war, which provided him with the key to obtaining nuclear missile warheads from the disintegrating USSR.
The magazine says MI6 and the CIA now have in-depth intelligence on this operation. Indeed, it is almost certain that when Colin Powell spoke with Pakistan, some of this information was divulged, prompting Islamabad to react.
Analysts believe bin Laden would have little hesitation in exploding a nuclear warhead, which many governments believe would lead to a frightening escalation in the war against terror

Just put the stuff on a ship and aim the ship at Cuba. Fidelito will be happy to move it to Mexico and get it across the border and move it to any place OBL wants. Our southern border is so crimnally pourous that its probably already here.

Whether they do or do not currently ahve this, it is clear they will as soona s they can. If they do have it now, no doubt they will trigger it if our troops get close to taking bin laden. The booby trap will be a self immolation of these guys. Saddama lso will trigger sucha device. The set up is on. Beware America. Unless we start with a few well placed nukes soon (to avoid the nuclear winter fatalists), it will in fact be all over. Especially with most of our war forces spread out in dangerous waters.

Further paraquoting what was supposedly Einstein's final words: "We go toward a third World War and this war will break out in the Middle East. One fourth of mankind will survive this war and they will live in caves, and then the fourth World War will come and then they will fight it out with clubs." I said, "Dr. Einstein, that is impossible. We must do something together." "No," he said, "I am done."

Actually, if Bin Laden was anywhere near having this capability, it doesn't figure that he would have gone with the jetliner plan first, ruining the element of surprise and making a suitcase nuke attack that much harder to pull off against tighter security and a higher state of alert in America.

I'm afraid that the terrorists wouldn't have done 9/11 unless they had other tricks in their backpacks or suitcases. Hitler's big "mistake" was in starting WWII without having first developed nuclear weapons. I'm betting that this Newsmax (not the best source, as a rule) story is about right. 9/11 was done after they got suitcase nuke capability, and got them into this and other countries. This "problem" may have been confirmed by Putin to our leaders, since the source is likely the Russian mafia. And 20 +/- cities are in for hell, even if the bombs are small, since they can be trigered near locations (tunnels, dams, reservoirs, power plants, etc.) that can magnify the damage.

I think bin laden if he has nuclear weapons wouldnt have used them before. he probably did the first wave of attacks to see who would side with who. Now he will be able to carry out an attack on the united states homeland as well as military targets. Remeber that one TV response he said a few weeks ago about the land burning underneath our soldier's feet? Well i think he has this thing planned out.

Hmmm, a captured, 35-year-veteran Paki nuclear engineer, lotsa raw material, 18 months, and an announcement by a VERY heavy-hearted Ashcroft today of a credible terrorist threat THIS WEEK!
Sounds like the bad guys already have a nuke in Canada or the US, and are gonna set it off.
If in Canada, then Windsor/Detroit is the best target. If in the US already, any large city will do.
'Movin' to Montana soon,
Gonna sit and listen for the BOOM!'
Stay well and vigilant....FRegards

What do you suppose the US' response to a nuclear device detonated on US soil would be?

...it doesn't figure that he would have gone with the jetliner plan first... It may be the "cell" nature of his organization. Lots of little groups operating independently. Lots of parallel activities. Whoever got up to speed first was the lead-off hitter.
Also, he supposedly made a ton of money shorting the market. A little tough to do if the market was first converted to a glass-covered parking lot.

They want nuclear? We got nuclear. NO MORE MR. NICE GUY.

Even if Bin Laden has suitcase nukes (and lots of sources say he does), that does NOT mean he can set them off.
Speaking from my own personal experience in the Air Force, arming a nuke is utterly impossible without the code, and only the Russians have that (I hope!). Given enough time, it might be possible to engineer a way around the fail safe mechanisms. That may be why we see such a sense of urgency to get Bin Laden.
BTW, suitcase nukes are not very big (as nukes go). They would knock down almost everything in a three block radius, with rapidly lessening damage as the distance increased beyond this range. That would knock out the core of a city, but certainly not kill all the people who live there. It also explains why the streets have been blocked off in a four block radius around our key buildings in Washington DC.

What do you suppose the US' response to a nuclear device detonated on US soil would be? For starters, I think congress may be persueded to declare war if that happened. Also, the draft would be revived. And the nuclear bunker-buster bombs would be used on every cave in Afganistan.

Hard to tell, but the World Series games have always been a potential signal point.

Don't worry, Captain. Batman is on the job.
