Palestinians slam U.S. envoy for equating intifada with terror

A senior aide to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat criticized a U.S. official Saturday for equating the Palestinian uprising with "terror," saying such comments were misleading and biased towards Israel.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Satterfield said Friday that a 13-month-old Palestinian revolt had turned into "an ongoing process of calculated terror and escalation."
Israel said the categorisation was a "welcome measure in the right direction", but that Washington should exert more pressure to stop Palestinian militant groups receiving support abroad by placing them on a list of "most wanted" terror organisations.
Ahmed Abdel-Rahman said Satterfield's remarks contradicted U.S. policy aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict.
"We condemn these statements by Mr. Satterfield because they are in fact misleading, biased to the Israeli side and failing to tell the truth," said Abdel-Rahman.
"Associating the intifada with terrorism contradicts the American constitution and United Nations convention that considers resisting the foreign occupation as a legitimate right for peoples," he added.
Abdel-Rahman also condemned a U.S. decision Friday to add 22 groups including the Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad to a list of "terrorist" groups under tight financial limits imposed after the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Satterfield called on Arafat to stop the escalation of violence by cracking down on the two organizations, which he said had "darker interests."
"This will not help the U.S. campaign to combat terrorism. This will add new enemies to America," Abdel-Rahman said. He added: "Those factions do not conduct any action against the United States. Their activities are directed against the Israeli occupation."
The two militant groups oppose Palestinian-Israeli interim peace deals and have been behind suicide bombings and attacks that have killed scores of Israelis.
The United States, which has criticized Israeli military tactics used to combat the Palestinian uprising as provocative and inflammatory, has exerted efforts to mediate a truce to kick start peacemaking.
Guess he's right, bombing/killing as many Israeli citicens and shooting wildly in crowds, or hijacking aircraft (the PLO's main way of "uprising" in the past) and killing people onboard who have got nothing to do with it, isn't "terror".

Throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers is resistance. Blowing up women and children in a pizza parlor is terrorism to any civilized person. If we add more terrorists or terrorist supporters to our list of enemies, it will be fine with me. If the press continues to call these jerks freedom fighters, I say that is journalistically harboring terrorism.

In May the Hamas held a demonstration in the center of Ramallah, during which a model of an Israeli bus was burnt as an act of support and encouragement for the perpetration of major terror attacks against civilian targets in Israel. The bus was set alight by a Hamas activist who was wearing a burial shroud featuring the words : "Al Aqsa troops, Suicide bomber no. 7". Palestinian security forces allowed the demonstration to be held and took no steps against the organizers or participants.
At an end-of-year ceremony at Hamas-run kindergartens in Gaza, the children performed a play with messages such as: Praise the Jihad against Israel and the Jews, an oath for the release of all Palestine and the murder of Jews is encouraged as a "religious precept". Alongside 1650 children, Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and a senior movement official - Ahmed Bahar attended the demonstration as well, and called on the teacher to continue educating the younger generation on values such as "the love of Jerusalem, the love of Palestine, love of the Jihad and love of the struggle".
The PA which is conducting a violent confrontation with a clear pattern of terrorism, allows the terrorist organizations (including Fatah, led by Arafat himself), to enlist popular support by way of the "armed struggle" and is educating generations of hatred for Israel and the murder of Jews wherever they are.
Well, "mr senior aide terrorist", if the shoe fits, wear it. And in this case, you need to wear both shoes and have another pair in your bloody hands.
