STEVE BUSCEMI --- We Need You for "The Fireman Song" Video
dfu | 11-26-01 | dfu

In the great FReeper network, there must be at least one person who is just one person away from contacting actor Steve Buschemi. Steve, as many of you know, showed up at the WTC in his old uniform to help the rescue effort after the cowardly sneak attack on 9-11.
We are hoping to convince Steve to join firefighting buddies in a video of The Ballad of Mike Moran. Of course, we hope that Mike will be leading the singing as a group of heroes raise their beer mugs and belt it out at an Irish pub.

Okay, who can help? We also are looking for a sponsor who wants some good press from this effort. Calling Guinness. Attention Kilkenny. How about it, Bushmills?

He might be more amenable, if you spell Mr. Buscemi’s name correctly! 8-)

I wish I was one person away from knowing Steve Buschemi! I'll watch any movie in which he's featured.

A Steve Buschemi bump!

Bio for Steve Buscemi from IMDB.

Was a New York City Fireman from 1980 to 1984, with Engine Company #55 in the Little Italy section of NY.

(September 2001) Showed up at his old firehouse the day after the World Trade Center tragedy in New York to volunteer. Worked twelve hour shifts for a week after the terrorist act, digging through rubble with his old comrades looking for missing firefighters... anonymously.

Thanks for the link.

"My favorite review described me as the cinematic equivalent of junk mail. I don't know what that means, but it sounds like a dig."

Buscemi is quite an actor, and I've enjoyed his work in Fargo and Con Air. Putting the fireman's uniform back on and almost anonymously helping with the Ground Zero cleanup shows that Buscemi hasn't let stardom get to his head like so many in Hollywood are prone to do. It shows that he is quite a guy!

From http://people.aol.com/people/special/0,11859,175431,00.html:

Actor Steve Buscemi is often found performing slightly off-center supporting roles in explosion-filled films like Con Air and Armageddon, but on the day after terrorists attacked the United States, he was playing a part he found even more familiar: New York City firefighter. Buscemi, who from 1980 to 1985 worked in downtown Manhattan's Engine Company 55, a few blocks from the disaster, rejoined his former comrades amid the wreckage. "He put in 60 hours on top of the pile, pulling out victims," says retired NYFD battalion chief Richard Ardisson, 56, who was at the site with the 43-year-old actor. "Not delivering coffee or giving moral support. He was exhausted and covered in soot." Buscemi declined to speak to reporters. Explains Ardisson: "He said he wanted no recognition. He said, 'These are my brothers.' "

You are welcome.

Often the bio's will list an agent or give contact info, but no such luck on this one. I went to IMDB looking for that and I came away with the bio as a consolation prize.

Good Luck!

Steve literally stole the movie Armageddon right out from under Bruce Willis with his lines, facial contortions, personality, etc.

Whoa! I liked the guy before I knew this. He is one of my husband's and my favorite actors. We will watch something just because he appears in it.

That is quite a story about his showing up and helping after the attacks. Way to go, Steve B.! ;^D

Spelling error is understandable. Most Americans, including many Italian-Americans, have no concept of Italian pronunciation even though it's quite simple. Since Buscemi pronounces his name correctly (again, many Italian-American's don't), with an "h" sound, it is natural that people think there must be an "h" in his name somewhere.

If you call the Actor's Guild and ask for the name of his rep, they will tell you. You can reach him that way.
