Sperm Donor Must Pay Child Support - Report

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A court in Sweden has ruled that a man who donated sperm for artificial insemination, enabling a lesbian couple to have three children, must pay child support after the two women separated, a Swedish newspaper reported on Sunday.

The regional daily Nerikes Allehanda said on its Internet Web site a county court ruled that the man was undoubtedly the children's biological father and hence obliged to pay child support of $265 per month after the women's 10-year relationship broke up.

The verdict poses a legal dilemma, however, because under Swedish law a sperm donor is not regarded as the legal parent of children conceived with the help of his semen.

Sperm donors, however, are normally strictly anonymous, while in this case the man was a friend of the couple and his identity as the father is in no doubt.

The man has appealed.

What a mess. This is what happens when you have children unnaturally. A child should be the product of a marriage between and man and a women. But we do need to emphasize and work on keeping together more marriages.

Let him pay through the teeth. He not only is the father he as well knowingly and willingly brought a child into a situational hell hole no child should be forced to endure. I'm not saying the child should not have been born but I'm saying not to to a gay couple. The child deserves better and will suffer for the selfishness and ego of the what ever they are's.

When will you men learn?? LOL Start working full time on your OWN birth control (a reasonable one aside from sterilzation) and make sure to put your sons on it. I have a 3 year old that I would like to see have a choice and not end up being a walking ATM for Mary BreedzALot

Seems like the gyrrls should be doing the paying if they were doing the playing. Methinks also that the donor was in dire need of good representation before the fact. Can you see the new ads on cable now for donor lawyers.

There's no legal dilemna. The county court ignored the law so he'll win on appeal.

"Could David Crosby end up in the same boat?"

Oh STFU! He did what he thought was right and got the shaft for it. Take the lesbians out of the picture, make it a M/F couple, apply same verdict, and ask yourself if that would be a problem. What you seem to be missing is, this becomes legal precedent now, and a hetero couple in a similar situation, could easily create the same problem for a donor.

The simple moral truth is unless you are prepared to insure the child you bring into this world is cared for no matter what happens, don't engage in conduct or matters that produces a child. I don't care what the father intended. He knowingly and willingly sired a kid into this world. Do you think the state should be responsible for his being so generous then? The issue is a kid of which either the biological or adopted parent must be held responsible. His donorship was not secret and he did this to further the womens cause. I do not support such cause as that. The man is just as responsible as if he had slept with the mother in this case. He knowingly and willingly brought a child an innocent child into a at best questionable relationship and highly untraditional nonfamily enviroment.

Who did he (David Crosby) donate to?

Singer Melissa Etheridge (sp?) and filmmaker Julie Cypher (actor Lou Diamond Phillips' ex wife). These two women have also recently broken up. Ol' David is probably thankful he doesn't live in Sweden.

Serves him right for helping those two freaks!

Will the same rule apply to Janet Reno when Livia Rodham and Obubba Been Laiden split?
